Rapid Breathing, Tachycardia, 17 Yr Old

Thank you all for the fast replies. It's just a mystery. I took her to the Animal Medical Center in New York last Sunday which is a fantastic state-of-the-art facility (my vet said to take her because she doesn't work on Sundays and vet thought she needed the ECG right away due to the high heart...

Rapid Breathing, Tachycardia, 17 Yr Old

Hi everyone I need some help. My 17 year old domestic shorthair has rapid breathing (but not open mouth panting), a heart rate of about 260, and she had an echocardiogram and a chest x-ray that revealed no heart abnormalities. She has chronic renal failure and is on methimazole twice a day for...

Returned From Vacation And Lily Is Standoffish

Hi Everyone - I went away for 6 nights and instead of my regular drop-in cat sitter, I had someone stay overnight with my cat, Lily, age 16 and 1/2. Usually when I return from a trip I am greeted with head butts and clinginess from this exceptionally affectionate and social cat (whom I adopted...

Geriatric kitty needs company, but is on prescription diet

Lily, my 16 yr old rescue, has been with me for 5 months and seems lonely. I've thought of getting a second cat but don't really have room for 2 litter boxes. Also, Lily has crf and cannot have any food that is not k/d. I'm wondering if she would get along with a guinea pig? I've thought of...

Geriatric Kitty visits litter box, does not do anything

Thank you for responding! She's doing better, and yes, you're right about monitoring her urine output. I actually rescued her from her previous owner. When I saw her condition I begged him to take her to vet. 3 weeks later he did but when he learned the cost of tests for likely crf, etc he...

Geriatric Kitty visits litter box, does not do anything

I adopted my 16 yr old Lily 4.5 months ago. She was 6 lbs had fleas, worms and had not seen vet since 2011. She was diagnosed with hyper-t and crf, put on prescription k/d and methimazole. After a few weeks she adjusted well and now weighs just over 8 lbs. Generally good appetite, plays with...

Very worried - possible poison issue

Thanks so much. She doesn't eat much wet food but I told the sitter to put water in it as that encourages her to eat more...she has 6 bowls, two each for dry, wet and water (just in case since she drinks so much, is finicky, and air in home is very dry). I never imagined anyone would go...

Very worried - possible poison issue

I was away for a week and my cat sitter fed my cat wet food from an old ceramic bowl I use for dyeing my hair. Is it possible my cat was harmed? She seems fine but she is 16, has crf and hyperthyroid, gets methimazole 2x per day and is on prescription crf diet (Hills K/d and Royal Canin).
