I still don't understand, is this a humane live trap he is using? If so, what is the problem? What would you like him to do with the cats that are pooping in his lawn (disgusting) and otherwise annoying him? Just let them because they are cats you know and your mother refuses to keep them...

If it's a humane live trap you're talking about, i think it's completely okay to use this to trap roaming cats (although not at all okay to keep the cat locked up for days at a time with no food or water). What else was this man supposed to do if neighborhood cats were on his property...

I would definitely agree that you should ask a rescue to help you place them. Remember, the kittens need to be spayed/neutered before they go to their new homes..the adoption fee can help cover that. Thank you for taking this little family in!

If the mom has always had a smelly box, it definitely could be the food. You might want to try a higher quality food and see if that helps. I don't know if now is the best time, however (not sure if you should be risking upset stomach with the young ones, since diarrhea in kittens can be fatal...

I have had simillar things come up in the organization i foster for. Especially the feeling that you are being cornered into adopting your unadoptable fosters. My best advice to you, personally, is to take some time off. Take a break from saving the feline world and just enjoy your own cats...
