It‘a almost that time to replace my furbabies water bowl I normally get a water bowl that has a water jug so they get fresh water constantly. But they say you can’t use plastic even though the one I get comes with a filter you put in the cap. Plus I deep clean the bowl weekly. I been reading reviews on stainless steel ones many say they rust. Ceramic bowls they don’t make any with jugs and it would get broken anyway. A water fountain is not a good idea for my household. Scooter & Casper would play in it more than drink and Nera(my dog) would be scared of it. So it’s like what do I do?! Does anyone have any suggestions?

here is the one I normally get along with 2 pics from where I get it

I've been using stainless steel water bowls for both our cats and dogs for years. I've never had a problem and they never rusted. They are also easy to clean.

I seem to can’t find any stainless steel bowls like the one I put in pictures. I’m on a very tight budget so it has to be cost friendly. Which only limits to the bowl I showed. You hear not supposed to have plastic bowls. Then it’s the whole oh you can’t give tap water to your pets. It’s just frustrating cause you get bad looks if you get the kind of bowl I showed. You get a look like you are a bad pet parent.

I like to use food safe ceramic or glass bowls as water bowls as they can be changed daily and run through the dishwasher or hand washed. I use my Fiesta ware medium size bowls, similar to a cereal bowl size, they are wider so the cat's whiskers don't touch the sides of the bowl.

I have this one from the Reject Shop in my bedroom. I change the water morning and night. Phoebe prefers it to the Drinkwell fountain, I never see her using that. Daisy uses it too, though she also likes the fountain. Had it for a couple of years and haven't seen any rust. ETA it's only $7AU.

As D DeesCats said, it doesn't have to be a pet bowl. Any bowl that's suitable material, wide and sturdy enough will do. As for tap water, if your tap water is suitable for humans to drink, won't it be the same for cats? Mine have never drunk anything else, whether from city water supply or tank water. (Granted Melbourne's water is very good quality.)

Yeah glass or ceramic is not an option for me they will get broken quick. If not by one of my furbabies probably by my clumsy self. 😂

I use to have bowls like that for water but they became food bowls instead. I invested in a water bowl with a little water jug. That way they can continue to get fresh water daily until I deep clean it every Friday. Since I am on a tight budget only kinds available is what I have shown. Since it’s plastic I’ve been told it’s a no no.

I always say the same when it comes to tap water if it’s safe for humans it should be for pets too. Granted I live in the US but my state the part I live in the tap water is very safe. If it’s contaminated or anything they let us know and we’re put on a boil water notice. People always bring up what cats ate in the wild. Well cats in the wild also drank from ponds, puddles, lakes, or wherever they get water from and that water is more dangerous than tap.

Have you looked in your local supermarkets or $2 shops, xlynnbbyx xlynnbbyx ? You can get pet bowls from places like that, it doesn't have to be pet stores with their inflated prices.
My stores all have water bowls like I have shown in pics. Only stainless steel bowls they have are food bowls. Which I already have for all 3. But it’s not good for water as I have 3 furbabies. So it’s easier to have a gravity water bowl so they get fresh water daily.

Where do you think?
I used to have a "water cooler" style one but got moss/algee in it after a few days so ended up throwing it out. Had the same isse with fountains only worse. Also had a fountain develop an obnoxious whine/slurping sound.

Overall a regular ceramic or stainless bowl seems to work best.

Is there any reason the food bowls wouldn't serve as water bowls? I'm pretty sure mine was sold as a food bowl, and they get fresh water twice morning and nigh because I refill it.

If I had 1 pet it would be fine. But I have 3 pets who have to share. That bowl will not work for them for water bowl. I don’t have the space for multiple ones either. So it’s why I get 1 water bowl always a water bowl with a jug or gravity water bowl. They get water daily and it saves on space. Plus the one I get they can’t spill water everywhere or dump it.

Ah, I see. Space (or the lack of) is a pain, isn't it?
It is a pain it’s why I only have 1 extra large litter box. Cause I don’t have the space for more. I wish I could move to bigger place but rent is like $1,000 for any new place. It’s ridiculous!

If it's any comfort, I had five cats who used one litter box - it was a big baby bath. They weren't bothered. This was before the "one each plus one" advice was standard. I would bet good money that even if they'd had the option of their own boxes, they'd have all decided to use the same one. Because cats.
