In case you don't know, I had decided to give up my cat after one too many of his freakouts. Recent events have caused me to change my mind.

Charlie stopped cuddling with me after the first month. Occasionally, he would sleep on the bed with me there, but always on the furthest corner.

I boarded him for a week in June to go on vacation. The first night I had him back, he had fallen asleep in my spot on the bed. I moved him to another spot so I could get in, and he came right back and slept in the crook of my arm. Recently, I was gone for the weekend, and he did it again my first night back. Charlie *missed* me.

Today, I was having a lie-down. Without any hesitation, Charlie jumped up beside me, and settled in. He bit my arm at first, but soon he fell asleep. This time, there was no particular reason.

You have no idea how much this means to me. I was going to give him up, but he clearly knows I'm his human. It just took him a long time to show me he knows.

I'm not a believer in signs, but I'm glad now that three shelters turned me down. He needed that time.

Obviously, everything isn't perfect. Charlie still attacks me and backtalks me when I tell him to get off something. He still makes a big mess with his food and water. He's still having freakouts. But he's not going anywhere.

:woohoo: BOY, I was ready for some good news! THANK YOU for sticking with your difficult boy. May this be just the beginning of the bonding that you wanted so much!

Cool emojis!!! I haven't seen those yet!

And I'm so happy for you and Charlie! I followed your other post and felt badly for you and he both. I'm having some issues with a difficult kitty too. I'm already changing my mind about her , as she's stopped attacking and hissing since a change in her predicament. But sadly it's too late for me. I took a deposit to hold her for a man who saw my ad & fell in love with her. He'll be picking her up Friday. :(

Has anyone been groomed by their cat? I think Charlie just did it-he thoroughly licked both hands, and then methodically up my arm. He even did that little nibble I've seen grooming cats do.

I don't know whether to be touched or offended that I evidently didn't meet his standards of hygiene

Sorry to derail the thread, but are you talking about your cat who just had the litter? Are you having her spayed first? What about her best friend?

Yes, we actually had her spayed almost 2 weeks ago. I think that's partly why she has calmed down so much. Ive been really upset at having to let her go now. Her buddy has been spending more time (almost all the time) out with my other cats and everything is going well there so all I can do is hope he stays well adjusted once she is gone. I've had serious thoughts about just backing out of the adoption but I know I can't do that to the people getting her.

What do you think would be best for the cat? She's been upended so much.

Be touched. It is a sign of two-way trust and affection. You're in like Flynn with Charlie.

There was an incident this morning. This changes nothing, but I've just learned that your cat can give you a black eye :paperbag:

Oh dear! :eek2: Are you OK?

I'm glad you don't hold it against him. :)

I was under the covers, and I could feel Charlie pouncing on me. It was a little annoying, but I saw no reason to stop it-until he landed directly on my left eye.

It's swelling up, there's a cut, and I've got a splitting headache.

I've been groomed by cats.

I always feel like I've been welcomed into their family when they do it.

My Zombi was very pushy about it, and would hold me in place [gently, yet with authority] while washing my face.

El and Morti both have given my hands very thorough bathings, and El woke me up a few weeks ago by licking my nose.

Zombi once gave me a bloody nose by bonking me too forcefully.

It's worth it.
