Oh yes but isn't someone just advised me not to get him vaccinated until he gains weight..so neutering can be done? I mean let me wait for a month or 2.. he only turned 12 weeks last Friday.. he is only 780g at the moment.. he is gaining weight but still very skinny.. I did research about how old they must be and how much they must weight.. they must be over 800g.. about 2lb I would wait for his weight to be 1.5 or 2kg at least..

Yes, I would think you could wait a month or so for neutering and vaccines. I wouldn't wait much longer than 4-6 weeks for the neutering though. You do not want him to start spraying.

You are correct! No more vaccines or neutering right now. He needs to grow and stay healthy! [emoji]128077[/emoji]

Definitely wait. He's just getting over a serious illness. I myself would wait until he's between 4 and 6 months. They seem to recoup faster at that age. Plus he should be over 2 pounds bt then. He may even end up being a little chunky butt, the way he's eating. Lol

The cutest part is this morning I gave him food at 4 am then again when I woke up at 6am he eats again but his bowl wasn't washed so I couldn't give his breakfast first and started preparing hubby's breakfast n packing luck.. they way he sits and wait patiently that is so adorable.... he will sit right at the place were I give his food.. and if he feels like thats it he comes to me kneeds me or try n climb on me then go back to his place.. will look behind if I'm following me n make sure I follow and come.. like he tells me.. so many times even after he takes me I just wanted to see what he does I'm like I don't know what you saying... so he will go to the place wer his food stored the come to the place he eats..lol..

Yip u right cos the next shot is a bit strong so he has to be healthy enough to deal with it...

My recommendation is to wait a bit longer with neutering.  Especially if he's the only cat in the household.

My boy Gingy was neutered at 10 months, weighing a healthy 10lbs.  He's now 2 years and 16lbs and very strong.

His brother came pre-neutered from the BCSPCA at only 8 weeks.  He's only 2 months younger than Gingy, but weighs barely 10lbs.

I believe, especially male cats need the hormones for healthy muscle growth.  Start observing him closely from 6 months onwards.  Given that he had a weak start with all the troubles you stated regarding his weight, I would be reluctant to think about neutering right now.

I knew it was time for my boy when he started sitting by the door and howling. No spraying yet, but the whaling had begun.

Also, consider not to over-vaccinate.   Our 4 cats are exclusive indoor cats with 24/7 access to a larger outdoor catio for fresh air, plus we walk them nearly every day on a leash.

We did 2 kitten vaccination of the basic FVRCP at 3 and 6 months of age, deworm/deflea (and one bout of ear-mites at 4 months of age) then 1 FVRCP repeat at 1 year of age, then nothing until 3 years later, when they're 4 years old.

Oh, and one last thing. Never declaw!  Switch vets if they're soliciting you to get the declaw together with the neuter.

Nop I will never declaw him.. I clip the tips.. n his fine as long as they don't poke me..lol..
I clip very tiny bit every week..It's sharp by then.. yip I do take him out for fresh air.. but don't let him much on his own yet.. will do that let him play when he is a little older.. I don't have a leash yet I think I must get 1 and start training him.. and I understand exactly what u saying.. yes for sure I will keep n eye after his 6 months.. for now I'm just leaving him as it is for 2 months I will see when his about 4 or 5 months if he needs any deworm or something... but till then nothing.. I groom him at home there is a video on YouTube how to clean they ears with coconut oil.. I did clean them once cos they wer very dirty since he came to me.. I just clean him with a wet hot towl of needed.. bit now he learned to keep him self clean as his growing.. I had to wash his bottom every day.. but now his clean.. oh yes n no more messy litter box.. I just have to clean twice a day.. thats the biggest relive.

I'm sure others will weigh in, but I don't think it's safe to let him outside or around other cats until he is fully vaccinated.  I would consult your vet.  There is a lot of exposure risk there.

No, this is still a concern. There are viruses and parasites outside. He could get really, really sick, and even die. He should not go outside at all until he is vaccinated. He can pick up anything he's not vaccinated for without coming into contact with another cat.

I agree also.  With his rough start and fragile health, no outdoors for him.  Also, distemper among other viruses can be dragged in on your shoes, ticks on your pants, etc.

We take our shoes off in the garage and wash our hands before going inside and greeting our cats.

I haven't read the entire thread, but have you ever dewormed him ?

The information can be overwhelming at times. Usually we learn a little here and a little there. I feel bad for you because you have to learn it all in a very short time. You're doing great though. I'm so glad you're staying with us here and updating.

Don't get discouraged. Even with the years of experience I have with cats, I still learn something new everyday. Cats are complex animals. My cat Ivy has a UTI from stress that she got last year at this same time. I never knew stress could give a cat a UTI. Now she's on antibiotics and pain meds.

Just look at your cute little snowball, and see what a wonderful job you've done so far. He's was on deaths door and now he's on his way to being a crazy, funny, healthy boy. And it's because you cared enough to reach out, learn all you can, and apply what you've learned.
