I choose the "Legos" and watching Sesame Street, atleast you learn things with that show and that game.  As for the babbling, it is becoming really addictive, so I have to stop for awhile to get to that...uhhh...housework.

Back in the 70's I rented a basement apartment in Knoxville TN. One time it rained very heavily & water came in and flooded my carpet. As I put my BARE foot down on the floor before knowing this, it landed squarely on the back of a 6" long speckled slug, crawling along at the side of my bed! Until you've seen something that gross, you haven't experienced the true deep South!
WAS it MORE gross to feel it under your Bare foot or to actually see it.  EEEK.  The poor slug, just minding his own business, being carried away by the rainwater, maybe even enjoying an indoor pool, so to speak, and POW ....out of no where a giant foot comes down.  I hope he did not see it coming.

Thanks for the veggie recommendations. I'm in southern California. I know tomatoes do well here, are the green beans and lettuce also OK in this climate?
The beans should do fine.  Lettuce tends to stress and/or bolt in the heat of summer (at least here in NY).  Maybe try lettuce in the Spring or Autumn when the days aren't as long and the heat not as extreme?

Will be interesting to see who is going to get that #500, bed time for me, it will be like opening a Christmas present tomorrow or maybe more like an advent calendar tomorrow to see who was the lucky one, happy babbling to all who will have morning / day / evening ie. other than bed time :D

>excuses herself to the bathroom<
A) why were you walking around outside in your socks??? Your laundry person (mom or dad) should have been paid extra.  and

B)  I missed the part about the "6 inches".  I shall now, also, excuse myself, and go to the bathroom....lol.

My Hawaiian friends used to tell me to inspect my shoes before putting them on when visiting them. Giant cockroaches are known to climb inside and use shoes for a bedroom.

I am up in ontario, canada, but if you got Giant Cockroaches in Hawaii, 6 inch slugs in the South and huge Moose Flies in Finland, then where am I supposed to move to after I retire.  LOL...I'm going to go and listen to some "california dreaming" by the Mama's and Papa's.

6" slug, that is larger than many birds, you do have some monsters there :-O

Everything we have are tiny.

We have those what we call moose flies, they get into hair and sometimes they bite, they are everywhere at autumn, well if there is a forest nearby that is.

Some say that even sauna is not enough to get rid of them, but I have found out that having 1 hour above 100 celcius is for certainly getting them not moving state without them recovering.

Of course after 1 hour at such temp I do feel bit of melted.
I forgot to say JTbo, we also have those deer, black and horse flies up here, as well as mosquitoes which to me are worse because when you are trying to get to sleep, you hear a contant buzzing near your ear, but they are difficult to see, yet you sure feel them when they bite.

okay, good night to finland friends.

Does anyone know if I can use the leaves from my jasmine vine and make jasmine tea? Is it that simple or do I need a special type of jasmine plant and would I have to go through a lot of gymnastics to properly dry and leaves?

@ raintyger....I've never tried Jasmine Tea, only spearmint and peppermint.  And I have not ever dried and steeped them, but my mom has and they were stronger than store bought. That sounds good though, so next time I will have to try some.

I gotta seriously go and do some housework now....babble with you later.

It is NOT babbling! It is fulfilling your TCS mod squad obligations and must be given appropriate priority!
I'll be sure to tell my husband and children!

I've heard some crops are better for winter or spring/fall seasons in different climates.  In some you can plant things in the spring and again in the fall!  I like looking things up on the Old Farmer's Almanac website.  It helped me get started.

My MIL likes to grow lettuce in window boxes attached to her 2nd story deck.  She lives in the mountains of Eastern Tennessee.  At dinner time she goes out and picks it and we eat it!  The tricky part of container gardening is supposed to be in watering it right.  My Grandpa  has grown some stellar tomato plants in large buckets!  I'm wondering if that is something I could try this year since I had the blight in my garden beds last year.  I think you do need to watch the plastics the buckets are made of and be sure it can drain right.  I'll have to research it I guess.  I know someone on here used to talk about growing their tomatoes in the winter.  I think they lived in a desert climate or similar.

Oh yeah- forgot to mention Knoxville is also known for a special species of bug known as the "whistling cockroach". My sis who has remained in that town (whereas I migrated to Cleveland in '85) told me of her encounter with these huge, smart incects in the basement of an old house belonging to her hubby's grandmother. Seems they could scare her from coming down the steps to do laundry by LEAPING at her and making a weird noise besides... got so she had to take their clothes to a laundry mat just to avoid encountering those critters... anyone ever have those in their basement in the south? Ewwwww!

My Grandpa used to grow tomatoes in buckets.  He would put small holes in the bottom for drainage, then put a layer of rocks on the bottom, then add the potting soil.  He grew some killer plants!  I guess back then he didn't worry about what the bucket was made of, but nowadays we worry about stuff like that and chemicals leaching into the soil.

Mmm...I love real vanilla extract in cookie dough or pancake batter even. We try to make pancakes every Sunday after church- one of my son's favorite rituals. :D Hate the cleanup afterwards, tho!

Just walked by my bottle of homemade vanilla and thought I'd bring up that it is super easy to make. If you bake you should make your own vanilla. I made it with some vodka and vanilla beans that I got from eBay. About $25 worth of materials and a lifetime supply of vanilla. Makes good gifts, too.

Thanks for the link!  It seems super easy to make.  And what a great gift!  I mean, who doesn't use vanilla extract?!  I'll have to track down some vanilla beans!

Get them off eBay, seller vanillaproducts. Conventional avenues like supermarkets or gourmet markets are way too expensive.

My mother's friend told us a couple  years ago that she makes her own vanilla that way.  I really should try it!!  I'd go bake something; except I have zero desire to wash more dishes right now.  I should have had a better breakfast!

I wish I had the time for baking cookies this time of year- seems like ideal season 'cause its not so bad heating up the kitchen with an oven on. Usually I don't have the ingredients all at one time on hand, either... My favorite kinds to make are peanut butter or oatmeal raisin. It would be nice to whip up some of those again one of these days!

Do you think it matters what kind of vodka you use?  Should I use something good like Ketel One or can I squeak by with Smirnoff?

Wow, its actually up to 28° here today! And the sun is out! Sure is nice after some of the bitter cold we've had in Cleveland the last couple weeks. One of the major down sides of living this far north!

lol the only one that I think is enjoying this weather is my cat. with so much snow out i'm pretty much stuck in the house therefore I'm with her all day. she has such energy i've been wondering if she would have fun with a playmate but at the same time I don't think she's gonna want to share with another cat.
