Pretty much everything is going to go through the kidneys at some point; when my vet called the manufacturer of Adequan the only concern was dosaging. We did blood work after a month of loading dosages and there was no change in her values. It's worth a phone call...

Here is the answer I got from a member on a CKD group:

> What is "Phospholipids"??

Phospholipids are a major component of cellular membranes. While a quick google search didn't provide a detailed description of how or whether they're metabolized, it appears that most of the activity takes place in the liver (where the body synthesizes them for use in cells). I didn't see any indication that they're broken down to the extent that would result in free phosphate radicals being released into the bloodstream -- it appears that they're most likely just restructured for appropriate use as needed, so for our purposes I don't see any reason to believe that they provide a dietary threat, more likely they're beneficial in the diet.

I saw someone ask about Krill Oil on the Yahoo CRF group yesterday, and wondered if that was you
.  Thought it was too much of a coincidence for it not to be
.  So now you know...NOW is a good brand to give even CRF kitties
.  BTW, I find it easiest to use a paring knife and cut the capsules open at the seam to squeeze out the oil.  If you're good at pilling, though, that's probably the least messy and ensures it all gets in.  Besides, not all cats like the taste of it.  Only one of mine likes it.  I know LDG just pills her Flowerbelle with it.

Have you tried Recovery by Purica? it comes in a human, equine and pet formula.  I am on the human and my horse is on the equine and my cats are about to go on their own kind. there is an amino acid in the pet version that is not in the human one. I beleive it has everything you mentioned but the salmon oil.  I noticed a huge improvement  for both my horse and myself when on it.

My kitty was born with abnormal hind legs. They are cow-hocked (the opposite of bow-legged). He developed horrible arthritis and could barely walk. I had him on cosequin, which didn't seem to be doing much. It wasn't until I added velvet deer antler (with green lipid mussels) that his limping dramatically improved. His joints still crack when he walks, but he no longer walks with a limp :)

mrsgreenjeens, Now krill oil sounds good, but it does contain omega 6 and 9 that I'm really hoping I can avoid! No matter if it's vVva labs or Now, I hope my cat is gonna like the taste cuz I was kind of hoping that new taste would encourage her to eat a little more!

* But damn Viva Labs, they wont answer my email. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

amandatzl, That product contains Vitamin C, which is not something you want to give to a cat with renal disease!

iLovePrincess, thanks for sharing the info! Never heard of velvet deer antler. I'm gonna start with this new glucosamine and krill oil, but if these products dont do the job (or if her arthritis gets worse as time goes by), I'll certainly look into this.

:)

Ok so Vivalabs doesn't contain omega 6 and 9 AT ALL!! Which makes it my first choice in terms of krill oil! It has a little bit more EPA/DHA than Now krill oil, but with the advantage of not supplying omega 6 and 9 that I am not interested in!

The only way it can cost the same price as Now krill oil, is if I buy 4 bottles (I'd get 2 bottles for free). Otherwise one single bottle is more expensive than Now Krill Oil!

I just checked the current salmon oil I am giving to my cat, it contains 180 EPA - 115 DHA.
Both Now and Viva labs would require to give 2 capsules to reach such a dosage.

Are you guys giving 2 caps a day of Now?

I would recommend looking into Adequin (sp?)...it is a intramuscular injection usually used for horses and dogs but has been approved for cats as well.  I too had my precious girl suffer from both kidney disease arthritis and my vet agreed to prescribe this medicine for her, adjusting the dose for her weight, etc.  I gave her the shot myself, well, usually my husband did, and it only hurts for a quick second as you do indeed have to jab it into the hind leg muscle, or at least that's the spot we chose, but it was very much worth if for almost a year and a half before she crossed over due to developing diabetes on top of all her other issues.  But she fought valiantly to the end and I think somehow knew everytime I gave her the shot I was only trying to help her to make her feel better.  I suggest you consult your vet about it.  Best of luck to you and yor baby!
