My vet switched my cat from prednisolone to methylprednisolone a month or two ago, I don't know if there could be a shortage of that too but I have not had any problems getting refills? It might be an alternative?
I think you'll find it's Brand Name predinisolone that's no longer being sold, but generic versions should still be available.PREDNISOLONE IS NO LONGER BEING SOLD IN THE U.S. ACCORDING TO A WEBSITE I
FOUND YOU CAN BUY IT IN CANADA.
I had to give kittens bubble gum flavored erythromycin and I had a follow up syringe with water to help get the taste out of their mouths, that might help you! Also you might want to look into homeopathic preparations that have anti inflammatory properties. I use some from two docs pet health for my fiv+ fosters, one has rhinitis and is always congested and this seems to help.Wow! Looks like I'm not the only one on the hunt for prednisolone. My female cat was put on a low dose for her inhaled allergies. We don't want to do injections and my vet doesn't like straight prednisone for cats because it is harder on their liver. He gave me a written script to take to a human pharmacy as all the vets are backordered. I called Walmart, walgreens, riteaid, safeway, target, fred meyers and a few others and no one has it. They have the liquid version but it was super expensive. Well, my vet could get the same liquid for cheaper, but it is an awful cherry flavor because it is for humans. (No xylitol, I checked). Anyways they coud do that or have a compounding pharmacy do it in capsules for more money. I decided to do the liquid to start, as I am pretty good at giving her any kind of medicine. Well, let me tell you, I am NEVER getting the liquid again! It is horrible. She has to have 1.5 cc of the liquid for the loading dose and she gags and foams at the mouth. She is getting better about it and less foaming. I give her some treats right after and she is ok. We are now at the half dose every other day which is good, but afterr I finish this I think we will do the compounded capsules for more money.
I think that once we have some more money saved up, we are also going to take her to a specialist to get allergy testing done and maybe do allergy shots. We know it isn't food, or fleas, but she is constantly itchy and gets scabs although they subside at various times of the year. Baths help somewhat and I do them once a week. Still sucks though.
