I started a thread on Billy acting strangely the past few past few days, he seems to have perked up a bit and I haven't been able to go near him while he's been acting odd as he has growled and hissed at me. I thought he was grieving as we lost our rabbit on sunday and thats when he started acting strange. Well earlier I managed to pick him up and my hand brushed a lump on his rear end. The fur is missing and this is what I found

Its a hard small lump with a scab in the centre. Now he was fighting with Floss the other day, they were only play fighting but they do get a bit rough, could this be the cause? He is ok now in himself, he's eating and drinking fine and he's been a bit more loving than the past coupe of days.x

Ooooh that looks nasty

Someone else might be able to advise but l would be taking him to the vet for an antibiotic shot incase it's an abcess?.

Does he snack at you if you touch it?

That does look like it could be an abcess which is very painful. I had one once and it was bad. That's most likely why he's acting aggressively. Aggression out of the blue is almost always related to a medical problem, most likely a serious one since cats are expert at hiding minor problems, so you really should have the cat examined by a vet asap if it happens. If you can get the kitty in somewhere today I really would. He's most likely in a lot of pain and infections can spread.

Its 9pm here and the PDSA where I go as I get free veterinary treatment only offers emergency services to animals basically on the brink of death. I will ring first thing in the morning and get him in.x

Bless him. Keep us updated,  but many painfree
coming his way

Thank you, I will make sure he goes tomorrow, I love my Billy so much, I love them all but he's my only boy. I'm just so sorry that I didn't find it before, its quite a hard lump so he must have had it for a few days, bless him, I knew he wasn't right, I should have took him as soon as I got "the feeling". Hopefully when he's sorted my old Billy will be back.x

Thank you, I'm on the phone first thing, its just terrible I was only there on sunday with poor Jase. The vet is quite a drive from me, just hope Billy will be ok. I will have to warn the vet too as Bill hates vets and he can become quite aggressive, more so now as he is in pain. He is feeling very sorry for himself tonight, bless him I think because he knows now that meowmy knows he isn't well. He's gone upstairs to bed, he has eaten and drunk so he's doing ok in that way. I just hope I haven't left it too long to find and it isn't really bad.x

Well, I've just come back from the vets and it is an abscess, she was a bit of a snooty vet and didn't really answer any of my questions, I asked her how she thinks it happened and she didn't answer me. She did say though that it has cellulitis in it? She gave him an antibiotic shot and a painkiller injection and just said if it swells or looks any worse to take him back. She said he'd obviously been licking it and he may need a collar but I will try and avoid that and just tell him no when I see him aggrivating it.x

I hate vets with no bedside manner!

Now he's got his shots you should hopefully see a difference in the next day or so. He's been licking it because of the pain l would imagine, but just give him extra cuddles from us all

Awww thank you I will do. He was very good in the car too, he did hiss at the vet thought he was going to bite him, she wasn't overly nice when she gave him the injections. Why choose a caring profession if you are not caring.x

I left my last vets practice 2-3 years ago after one of them scared Rosie with her yearly shot. There's a thread in the Behaviour forum titled "Rosie attacked the vet", but it served him right because she's never growled or hissed at any vet until then.

The vet we go to now knows this and he knows my feelings on bedside manners

He's probably got an abcess because he's been bitten.  Cellulitis is infection and swlling in the tissue - the red area round the actual abcess.  It's usual to bath abcesses as they heal, to make sure they heal from the bottom up so they can't reform.  When I had a cat that fought I used cotton wool and warm water - he had a lot of abcesses.  Hopefully it will respond very quickly to the antibiotics, and the pain killer will help him fell better for the meantime.

Thank you for that. He keeps licking at it, she said she didn't want to see him again unless he kep licking it which he is doing. Typical, she will only give him one of those collars though and he will hate that I know he will. I will bathe it, she did say that it wasn't too swollen which is a good thing. She just wasn't the most co-operative person in the world. I asked her if she could give me an indication as to how old Billy is as he was a stray when we had him and she just ignored me
Next time if I have to go back there I will request to see another vet. The man I saw when I took Jase on sunday was a lovely german man, he even had tears in his eyes when he gave Jase the injection to put him to sleep, now that is a caring person. I think they probably get p'd off because it is a free service for unemployed people but I gave a donation today and I will donate what I can when I can. Still no reason for her to be a cow
She didn't even talk to Billy and he is such a handsome boy, I just think its totally wrong, you wouldn't go to the doctors and they just stick an injection in you without telling you, I know cats can't speak but they do understand certain things I know that.x

Well, I'm glad he got the antibiotics and the pain shot. I'm SURE they will help him quickly! But you're SO right - why chose a profession that requires caring - and then not be nice? It's just terrible, and there's no excuse for it. :nono:

:vibes: for Billy and :hugs: for you!!!!!

Well this evening he is more like his old self again, not 100% but I think the injections have definitely made a difference to him. I will not be satisfied until he starts talking to me again, he normally when I ask him "what a matter Billy?" he mews at me. Hopefully very soon. He is still licking it though I keep telling him NO when I see him do it and he does stop, think I will just have to keep telling him no and hopefully he will give up with it, I know the plastic cone collars are sometimes necessary but I know it would just stress him out.Oh and I found out he weighs 3.18kg
