Russian bald cat?
Every Sunday evening there is a program on TV here in Germany entitled "Animals are looking for a home", which portrays candidates for adoption. This past Sunday, two sisters were shown who were described as "Russian bald cats", and had ended up in a shelter in Hamburg, Germany, with Russian "papers". They were very strange looking: they had hairy faces and legs, their bodies looked like those of Sphynx cats, i.e., totally bald, and their tails were partially covered by tufts of hair. Does anybody know the "recognized" name of the breed?

There are supposed to be at two hairless breeds in Russia: The Don Hairless (or Don Sphynx), which is very similar to the Sphynx; and the more popular Peterbald, which is a hailess cat with a oriental body type (like a Siamese).

I was born and lived in Russia almost all my life (came to the USA 3 years ago with parents because my dad got a business contract) and I've never heard of a Russian bald cat.
Russian Blues are very popular there, and there are lots of breeders, but never heard of this other breed. I have heard of Peterbald and have seen pictures, but never met one face to face. |
