neutral Staring into space

Maddox will sit and stare at the blank wall for long periods of time, and I can never figure out what he's looking at It creeps me out. It's as if he if focusing on something; his eyes dart back and forth like he's trying to keep upt with "it." Do you babies do this???

Yes, something is there they can see. Could be dust motes or a very small insect. Some call it "communicating with the mother ship".

Or they are doing it to confound their human.

Good point. I never even thought about dust particles. That is much better than some "spirit" lingering around in my apartment. You know some say that cats have a 6th sense.

That could very well be, you never know. Sometimes when one of my boys is purring or very much into something, he suddenly sees something in the other directions and runs after it even when you think there is nothing there.

Hi,
Cats vision is much better then humans, so it is possible that your cat is looking at dust particles ...

Talking Spooooooky

Hi,
Sport does the same thing. I knew that there was nothing wrong with him , but the last time that I was at the vet I asked what he was looking at . Whomever said dustmites and things like that was correct...at least according to my vet anyway...LOL . It is funny and creepy all at the same time, I will definitely agree with that.

Peace, Love and Tie Dye,
Rob & Sport

Maddox is deaf, right? Maybe he's just listening to "the music of the spheres." No telling what a cat might see.

Yes, Maddox is deaf. What's "music of the spheres"?

It's a humorous term used to describe the indescribable music of the universe as it runs. In other words, Maddox was listening to his own, internal, imagined music.

Of course, there are those who say that when cats do this sort of thing, they are contemplating the 100th name of God, known only to cats (we humans only know the first 99) and camels.

When I'm sitting on the couch, one of my cats will sometimes stare wide-eyed at the wall just over my head like there's a 10 lb. spider on the wall getting ready to jump on me.

Could be he's contemplating "Life, the Universe and Everything". Tell him the answer is 42. We have that conversation with ours frequently.
