Windows 7 review

I just "upgraded" to Windows 7. So far, it's running extremely well, but in my opinion, Vista looked smoother. Everything is so bulky in 7. The taskbar is huge. It's at least 1.5 times as big as Vistas. Thankfully you can hide it.

But as expected, Windows 7 has it's problems. For instance, if you are familiar with Windows Mail and use it as your primary e-mail program, you will want to save your e-mails somewhere or print them as 7 doesn't have an e-mail program with it. And some of your programs and even hardware may not work with 7. I have to buy a new printer because my printer is not supported by 7. At least my mouse, speakers, monitor, and keyboard work. And here's a big blow to many people: iTunes is not supported by Windows 7. Or at least Apple has not made a version of itunes that will work and be stable with it. My iTunes is working for now, but it seems to be struggling. I think it's only a matter of time before it crashes.

So basically 7 runs quite nicely, looks a bit bulky and has a lot more sharp edges (as oppose to Vista's smoothness), and so far will not work with many programs. Hopefully, new versions of software will be made that will work with it.

A tip from the Microsoft gurus that I got at an IT seminar - install the Vista drivers for anything that doesn't automatically install with 7. Since they are essentially the same engine, the drivers should work interchangeably. If there are drivers available to download for your current printer for Vista most likely it will work fine in 7 as well.

That's interesting about iTunes, but I wonder if it's something in the configuration of one or the other? I've been running 7 for a while, my husband since it was still in Beta, and we both have been running iTunes without a problem. Granted, I am definitely not a power iTunes user; I use it with my iPhone and that's pretty much it. But it seems to be doing OK in that regard, and I have added music and it adds it to the playlists there and plays it.

Yeah my itunes seems to be working now after a system update. The weird thing is that during the install of 7, I was told that certain programs, including itunes, were not compatible and would be deleted during the installation.
