December 21, 2012--What do you think?

This is a topic that is very interesting to me, and has only recently been brought to my attention. I just saw the movie a few days ago. I loike to watch the History Channel too and they have a few specials about this.

If Nostradamus and the Mayans "predicted" the end of the world in 2012, is this something we should believe? What do you guys believe? I mean, just because the Mayans chose to end their calander on December 21, 2012, does that necessarily mean that the world as we know it will end that day?

My boyfriends dad believes it will be another "Noah's Arc" type deal, only he truly believes that NOBODY will survive this. Some people think that some will survive, others think nobody will.

I'm not sure I can accept that the world will really end, or that we will experience cataclysms that will devistate the world. However, I think it IS possible, because it has happened before.

What are your thoughts on this?

Being a Christian, I believe only God knows when the world will end. I try to stay away from those programs. Don't need something else to worry about!

If it's true, there is nothing we can do about it anyway. Just live a good life and try to do the right thing.

What else can we do?

We watched the movie too - AWESOME special affects - was pretty cool, but we don't buy the story for a min.

There is ONLY one person that knows the end of this world (completely) and he's not about to tell us the date. No person on earth, past or present or future knows that date

In all honesty, my guess is that the Mayans ran out of symbols to use for a calendar, and that is merely the date they planned to start over.

I am with Mike here. I think people over-analyse things. It is probably something as simple as running out of symbols.

I read an article where the Mayan descendants aren't too concerned themselves. It is a arbitrary date started from another arbitrary date.

The really scary date is 2038. That is when UNIX machine dates start having problems.

When I was a kid I wished I could see the end of the world. Now with the movie and talk on the subject I wonder if I am getting closer to my wish being granted.

I am honestly indifferent about this..It could be true that the world will end in 2012, but why spend some of my time and energy thinking about it when there is no way I'll know for sure unless I wait and see??

How many times have huge disasters been predicted and foretold that have never occured? I'm not really putting too much faith into the "world is going to end in 2012" line either.

The world could possibly end tomorrow too by some freak natural disaster.

Something I've always wondered about - why are so many people obsessed with an apocalyptic end to the earth? Not fear of it, but anticipating it.

I'm not obsessed, I just wonder about it. And also like to know others' opinions about it..
