Have caught three but one is still out there... it's killing me

Hey everyone,

things have been going pretty well until last night when I set two traps and was only able to catch on of the remaining two. It broke my heart to leave the other one out there. My roommate isn't helping because she's all telling me that Bandit, (that's what we named her), is going to be lonely. I don't want Bandit to be lonely and I'm just getting this one its shots and spayed and I'm going to release it. They will be apart for a week tops. I feel like crap though. I've just been thinking about Bandit being all alone all day and all last night.

Should I have not taken Squigs, (what we named her), last night? Ugh, writing this is actually helping me release my feelings but I'm torn up about it you know. I was just trying to be strong because at least this way I know that Squigs will be fixed and have shots before she goes back into the world and I'll feed them for the rest of their lives if I can't catch them and find them homes...

Any good words?

You are doing the right thing. I would keep trying to trap the other cat left. Its only a week. They will be healthier for it.

Hang in there. Are you going back tonight to try to trap the 4th one? I wouldn't give up - you are so close!

How old are the kittens? That's awesome you are going to get them all fixed. Have you contacted any rescues to see if anyone is able to help foster/socialize them so the others can be adopted?

Good luck with everything and keep us posted!

You did the right thing, absolutely! It is rare that we can trap them on our schedules or the way we want to. You've done a great job, and you'll eventually get the 4th!

Trapping can often be unpredictable. Please hang in there and know you are doing the right thing. Sending trapping vibes for the fourth kitty. Bless you for your efforts!

I'm actually sitting in the parking lot trying to trap bandit now. Two nights in a row with no luck. He goes halway in and then backs out.

I'm going to wait him out tonght... If he's hungry, he'll eat right?

He knows I have his family and wants to come home. He rolled over and rubbed up against my leg and let me pet him tonight. Of course he
Hissed right after that but hey, he only wanted a couple seconds I guess... :p

Wish me luck, I need him to go in that trap tonight...

I've got my trapping vibes ramped up, so I'm sending some to Bandit!

...if you don't get him tonight, wash the trap with a light bleach solution (get the smell of other cats and fear off of it), and spray it with Feliway before trying to trap him again. You can also pour soil or litter over the bottom of the trap - they then don't have to walk on the wires and it lifts right up through it.

If you're close enough to the trap, you can try the water bottle trick. Prop the trap door open with a filled water bottle instead of the trap's hook. Tie a string to the water bottle and back away to your usual sitting spot. When Bandit goes in, you can pull the bottle and spring the trap. It's tricky but it works.

Ditto on cleaning the trap and spraying with Feliway...

Good luck!

hey everyone, I got bandit that night... she let me come pretty close and i reached down and pet, (she let me), and then i got her by the scruff and put her in the trap. I think that between the vibes here and the fact that i had the appt at fixnation the next morning made it happen!

So she's all taken care of.

I had to let her go though, she was a little wild for me and i've already taken in the other three bringing my household total to 2 dogs and five cats... we still feed her every single day though. it breaks my heart that we couldnt keep her. I try not to think about it.

Hey,

well done! You may not be able to keep her but you made sure she won't go into heat and have litters she might not be able to take care about, so don't feel bad about it

regards,

Christine

That's great news! She's been spayed and is being cared for, that's what matters.
