Omg! He peed on me!!!

Excuse the all caps, guys, but OH MY GOSH!!!

Charlie is my little lovebug, my cuddle buddy, my nighttime snuggler; I would never expect anything out of him like this. We've had issues with inappropriate urination before, which turned out to be attributed to UTI's (as many of you know). He's been UTI-free for almost a year and this was a LOT- I mean A LOT- of pee; that's not the problem.

When he had UTI's, he peed directly on the floor.

Here's what happened:

Tonight, my husband and I settled in to watch Anchorman. We're about halfway through the movie when Charlie comes into the living room and acts like he wants to sit with me. I do my little finger wiggle to entice him into my lap, but no dice. He goes on to do his own thing. A few minutes later he's back. I do the finger wiggle and he jumps up into my lap and sits.

Then I notice the warm, moist feeling running down the inside of my thigh.

Has anyone else ever had this issue? I'm normally very in tune with my pets and can usually tell when they're ill or need to see the vet; I'm very cautious and will take them in "just in case". But I really don't think that is needed this time. My main reason behind this thought is that, for some reason, Charlie has been REALLY needy lately, which I don't mind, but it's been quite out of character. He's very loving, but now his behavior seems more...desperate. Today, when I was getting ready to go to the shelter, he curled up on my sleepshirt on the floor outside the bathroom and just watched me get ready. Then, before I left, he ran to the treat drawer as if to say, "Mom, wait! Just one more treat!"

My husband reported last weekend that, after I left to go run our adoption booth at Petsmart, Charlie got very anxious and kept checking on the bedroom door (that's closed so that Cleo won't run under the bed and hide forever), scratching on it. He said he eventually opened it because Charlie started ripping up the carpet trying to get in. When he got inside, he saw I wasn't there, and he left the room.

I'm very concerned about this... I can't stand the thought of my babies being unhappy.

*EDIT* Also, I work from home! I'm home all day/evening/night on average 4 days out of the week. Fridays I'm home all morning, then I spend the afternoon at the shelter. We're usually busy all day on Saturday, but we're home all day again on Sunday...

I would still get him to the vet. Knowing he has UTI issues, the changes in behavior are also often an indication of something being medically wrong.

Our Tuxedo kitty ONLY exhibited behavior changes - and very slight, over time. If we came into a room in which he was sleeping, he'd get up and turn his back to us. After a while, that changed to him getting up and leaving the room. That was it.

Turned out he had an autoimmune disease that was causing his body to destroy his red blood cells, and he was becoming extremely anemic.

Behavior changes are often an indication of a medical problem. So combined with the peeing, and knowing he's had problems with UTIs, I'd get him to the vet for a full check up and blood panel, and hopefully they'll be able to express some urine to check.

Charlie has a vet appointment on Monday...tech mentioned diabetes...that really has me worried.

Hemmy used to have chronic UTI's and he peed on me once when he was sick. I think he knew I was the one who could help him (I mean sort of, I'm not a vet but I do know what a UTI is) because I was always the one who cared for him during previous UTI's.

Pepper peed down my back once. I was sitting on the couch and she backed up to the back of my neck. She was apparently just being spiteful. The litter box was clean and the vet gave her a clean bill of health. She has never done it again.

How strange. That must have been pretty weird for you! I can't imagine what would cause poor Pepper to do that.

I wouldn't think it was spite, though. A cat would have to be angry, recognize that a specific human caused the event/situation that's upset them, decide to "pay them back" in kind, and recognize that the act of being peed upon would cause a comparable emotion in the human. This isn't a chain of thoughts cats are capable of making.

Maybe she was stressed over a recent change in the house? Stress can cause unusual behaviors that disappear when the stress subsides.

I've been peed on by 3 cats over my lifetime. 2 were related to stress and the 3rd was a medical condition. Bob peed on me when I tried to convert him to an indoor-only cat. Pinky has peed on me when he feels he is not getting enough attention. Muddy (auto-immune disease) has peed on me when his illness flared up.

Go beyond looking for a UTI on this one. Have some blood work done on him also. If you rule these out, then there is something going on that is causing him stress.

Of our 3 cats, Chloe is the only one who has peed on people or in inappropriate times. The poor thing gets so scared that she pees.

The first time, my SO was holding her and there was a ceiling fan on that freaked her out, so she peed on him.

She has peed in her carrier twice while taking her to/from places (completely understandable, poor baby).

Henry harasses her so bad that he makes her pee. If I didn't see it happen, I would have thought something else was going on.

My Patch is prone to UTI's. He just had two infections. One was a UTI the other is a Staph infection, we cleared up one infection but the staph is harder to get rid of. He has been peeing on me for a few days now. He is part feral so he is very wise to my tricks to get him into the cat carrier. He also is peeing a large amount. He probably needs a session of antibiotics.

Maybe have the vet give him a once over just to be on the safe side.

I'll bet that's it!!! Lol! OH, that movie was nearly unbearable. I don't blame him if that was the reason.

LDG, Charlie does drink, but not excessively. It's the same amount he's always been drinking since we switched him onto the RC Urinary SO.

KrazyKat, I'm counting my blessings! I'd definitely rather be peed on in my lap than peed on down my back!

Vet appointment at 11:30 tomorrow afternoon. I'll post an update as soon as we get back. Everyone please send Charlie some good vibes. In the two short years he's been with us, he's had an awful case of bronchopneumonia, stubborn ear mites, chronic UTI's and a week's hospitalization because he ingested a ribbon.

I've researched a little on feline diabetes and he doesn't fit any of the frequently-listed symptoms. But the tech's mention of it still has me concerned...
