I did a lot of research on this matter, as Bugsy is allergic to Chicken, and there are not many options out there for him.
The majority of problems about fish I read, including on the posted articles on this thread, refer to HUMAN GRADE fish (i.e. canned tuna, raw fish, etc), and not fish in cat food. Also, a lot of these problems are seeing when the diet is based on human grade fish, meaning, they don't eat other food as their main diet. Cat food with fish is balanced, which gets rid of the majority of these problems, aside of course of allergies. There is also the problem for UTI prone cats - the foods I feed are all fish based, but are all UTI safe. Sharky is right - there is a lot to do in processing... I would not feed fancy feast or another lower quality brand with fish, but I feed Tiki Cat any time, as well as Orijen 6-fish for dry.
When feeding fish, IMO a high quality food should be fed, and also do your research - read their white papers, the mineral #s, feed backs, and faq's about UTI and other problems.
