Hello, I’m in the process of toilet training my two cats, and was curious if anyone knew of any non-toxic disinfectant sprays I can use for the rim of the toilet that are safe for cats, but adequately removes the bacteria from feces/urine for ‘people use’?

Yup!! Just like in the Meet the Fockers movie. THere are a bunch of websites that tell you how to do it, but I bought a citikitty potty http://citikitty.com/ (which had the best reviews on Amazon.com) I'm only on the first stage...One of my cats ran around the house trying to find her litter box and is still ignoring my boyfriend (who removed the litterbox) out of protest, but since have adjusted and have had no accidents, and no problems at all.

Don't use any Lysol products. I guess plain water and a little bleach would be ok, but if you continually have to be wiping the toliet seat cause the cats are on it, why do you want to toliet train the cat?

I don't intend to continiously wipe the rim after they go, but I clean my bathroom weekly and i expect there will be occasions when the cats will poop on the rim, and with their ocd-like paw licking, i want to make sure they don't end up getting sick.

how about emptying the water in the toilet then scrubbing/spraying natures miracle in there and letting it soak for a while, then flushing.
even if your cats drink it they'll be okay, plus it'll take the smells and stains away. :)

You could try some of this Clorox Anywhere Hard Surface Spray
http://www.clorox.com/innovations_anywhere.php
I just picked some up at the grocery store the other day because it is supposed to be safe around kids and pets.
I thought it might be good for cleaning the desktop and window sills, etc.
Good Luck with your toilet training and finding a cleaner you'll be ok with. :)

it may be safe around them and safety is number 1. i do hope that the smell does not repel them.
just something to think about. ;)

I wouldn't use any cleaner that might hurt the cat. Maybe just plain lemon juice is enough.

lemon juice is citrus scented and might deter the cat from using the toilet. they might then go elsewhere.
