View Full Version : Scooping
TiffanyL 24th August 2006, 01:21 PM How often do you scoop? Also, how many litter boxes do you have? I have 2 litter boxes. One for the kittens and one for my 1 year old kitty Michoud. I have seen one of the kittens using the bigger litter box (this one has a cover) though. I have to scoop every morning and sometimes twice a day with 4 kitties. How about you?
lookingglass 24th August 2006, 01:22 PM Three times a day, and we have two boxes. In 750 square feet, I don't have a choice of not scooping, or the whole apartment would smell.
katiemae1277 24th August 2006, 01:26 PM I have 6 boxes for 10 cats and I scoop once a day
arcadian girl 24th August 2006, 01:31 PM one box, one cat, usually scoop morning and night, but if its obvious Wonton has made a "deposit", i'll go scoop it right then. whole litter gets changed and litter box soaked and scrubbed once a week.
TiffanyL 24th August 2006, 01:39 PM OH, I forgot to ask also, do you use litter pan liners? I can't stand using them, they rip them to shreds!
Rosiemac 24th August 2006, 01:41 PM I'll move this to care and grooming for you.
I don't use liners. I have 2 boxes and scoup twice a day. First thing in the morning, then when i get in from work on an evening.
urbantigers 24th August 2006, 02:01 PM I have 2 cats, 1 large, covered box and scoop twice a day. I could probably get away with scooping once a day, but I don't like the idea of poo lying in there for up to 24 hours. I've never bothered with liners - tried them once and they were useless.
Mirinae 24th August 2006, 02:05 PM We have two litterboxes but should have three (one per cat, plus one extra), but there's simply no room in our apartment for a third litterbox -- the two we do have fit perfectly and discreetly in an open closet, and it's out of the way so the cats aren't interrupted when they're doing their business. We scoop every other day and do a litter change and thorough box scrubbing every weekend. Although we have a smallish apartment, I don't find that there's much of a smell (unless we have company, in which case one of the cats will decide to leave the biggest, smelliest dump imaginable! ). We don't use pan liners; never saw much need for them, honestly -- and yes, our guys would tear them to shreds, too.
GingersMom 24th August 2006, 02:24 PM One cat (soon to be two! :) ), one box (soon to be two!) and I scoop first thing in the a.m.
When Ferris comes to live with us, I'll scoop twice a day until he's going less often, then I'll drop back to just once.
Looked at liners in the store, thought they were stupid because cats always scratch in their boxes, so I never tried them.
Beccory 24th August 2006, 02:27 PM One cat, one box. I scoop nightly, and change out the litter every two weeks.
Naturestee 24th August 2006, 03:12 PM Two kittens, two litterboxes, and I scoop once a day. If they need it, I'll do it twice a day when they're bigger. The only time I can smell anything is right when they're pooping, because both boxes are in the computer room. One is right next to the desk, so no avoiding the smell! But it's gone as soon as they bury it.
Cearbhaill 24th August 2006, 08:59 PM Three cats, four boxes, scooped twice a day.
gailuvscats 24th August 2006, 09:42 PM 3 males, three boxes, small, medium, and large. the biggest cat likes the small box. scoop morning and evening, but it can sometimes equal 6 or more scoops, because as soon as I scoop the pee for one, the other two pee in succesion. The same with the poo. I just stand there with the scooper and wait for the next deposit. I use clumping litter. Don't do a thourough dumping and cleaning as often as I should. Just beginning to get into that routine because of FUS in the big guy.
Jenny82 24th August 2006, 09:46 PM I have 2 cats, 3 boxes, and I scoop every day or every other day.
gizmocat 25th August 2006, 05:20 PM One cat, one box, and the box is scooped a minimum of twice a day. Litter's changed every 2 1/2 weeks. I use liners--the one time I didn't, I realized why I should.
Sibohan2005 25th August 2006, 05:56 PM I scoop once a day and change the litter ever 3 weeks. I don't use liners not because they don't work but because Sibohan likes to tear them to shreds (she's a digger)
Hell603 25th August 2006, 05:58 PM one box, one cat, usually scoop morning and night, but if its obvious Wonton has made a "deposit", i'll go scoop it right then. whole litter gets changed and litter box soaked and scrubbed once a week.
:yeah: - I do the exactly the same for my Loki!!
angelkitty 25th August 2006, 06:25 PM I have two cats, and 1 litterbox. I scoop 3 times a day.. Noon, 6 and Midnight. I also have 3 strays that I picked up the past two days, and they share a litterbox down in the basement (quarantine - until I find them a home),, I scoop that the same times I do the resident cats.
I do use liners.. I have that Cats Rule Box, with a top on it,, and the liners are very thick,, they don't rip until the end of the week.. Keeps me from digging stuff off the bottom of the box. The liners are expensive though $10 bucks for like 10 of them...
I was thinking about buying one of those automatic litter box,, but I've heard mixed reviews about it.. and there not cheap!!
jaycee 28th August 2006, 12:37 AM 2 cats, one box, scoop once per day (sometimes every other day, i know bad. busy single mother here) and my teeny tiny apartment never smells!!
booktigger 28th August 2006, 09:27 AM 6 cats, 6 trays, I check them 3 times a day to see if htey need scooping, not all do fortunately, so some are scooped less. Never used liners, but might go back to putting newspaper on the bottom - tray cleaning day today, so will give it a go.

I have 2 cats and one litter box. The box is in the bathroom so whenever I go in there and see that one has used it I scoop... usually. Sometimes I only scoop 2 or 3 times a day though.
I do a complete disinfecting and litter change every 2 weeks.
mrspotts66 1st September 2006, 01:12 AM two females, two boxes, scoop once a day. clumping litter...complete litter change and box cleaning every 4 to 6 weeks.
