I have been saving money and today I finally went to the pet store to get a cat drinking fountain. After much debate I decided on the Petmate freshflow deluxe!!! I just want to say I LOVE it. Kinsey has already drank more than the size of her old water bowl. It used to take her a couple of days to empty her water bowl. The water just looks so clean ans the little trickle sound has been tempting ME all day. I've found myself considering drinking from it. lol but I really have been drinking more water. I am just very pleased. I feel like it was $40 well spent!!

That is good to know...I have been debating getting Sebastian one as he likes to drink out of the bathtub but have been torn between the much more expensive Drinkwell fountain or the petmate....Now I may just go and try the petmate :) he may love me for it.

We have the Drinkwell fountain and my cats absolutely love it. I've found they need to be replaced about every 2 years due to build up I just can't clean off anymore, but the money is well spent.

I just bought a Petmate on Monday and so far I am very pleased! I didn't get the Drinkwell because I didn't think my cats would like the free falling water (plus it's more expensive). But I wish I'd looked around first because the Petmate is only $20 from Amazon.com!

There are two sizes of the petmate. I have had both. The smaller one that I have is blue, and then there is a much bigger one that is white. My bigger one kept leaking after a year of service... couldn't figure out why, but luckily I had the blue one ready to go.

I just bought a Petmate fountain too and I also love it!! I have to fill up the resevoir at least once a day since my kitties are drinking so much water now. Yes, it was definitely money well spent. :)

Our babies love our Petmate too. Bijou prefers drinking from the bowl part and Mika loves to drink the water coming down the ramp. They drink much more water now as well.

i have a catit which my cat does love. He likes playing in water and when he gets on a roll there's water everywhere.

I had to put our fountain up because I would come home and the top would be off and the filter would be on the floor. For some reason, Scotty thought that was a fun thing to do. :( He would also scratch at it...I wonder if the sound of the pump annoyed him.

Maybe one day, after I move, I can use it again.

I've been thinking of getting a water fountain for my cats too because they like fresh cold water and if it's not cold neither will drink it. So I actually have to change the water twice a day and add a large block of ice to it to keep it cold longer.

My cats like the water level to be quite high, almost to the top. The petmate one doesn't look like the water is very deep in the dish and I doubt either of them would drink from it. Is it possible to raise the level of the water inside the actual drinking dish or is it a certain height by default and that's it?

This one looks like it has a higher water level and would be something my cats might use. But I worry about noise. My youngest gets freaked by strange noises and if the place she was drinking from were making a motorized noise she wouldn't go near it.

That's the one we have. It isn't loud - there's a low motor sound but mostly you hear the trickling of the water. You decide how high the water is in the dish, it just needs to be above the intake valve.

I wanted to come and add this before I forgot...if you get one of these fountains, the best way to clean all of it's little nooks and crannies is with fishtank cleaning brushes. We had our old fountain for two years, and I finally threw it away and replaced it because there were so many stains that I couldn't scrub off. I thought of the fishtank brushes a year after getting it so by then the stains were already permanent.

I'm starting with the new one now and I'm hoping it'll last a lot longer. Cleaning is a breeze with those brushes. I clean the whole thing once a week - I take it apart completely and clean each piece separately.

The stains were probably calcium deposits. You could have used a product such as CLR that removes calcium, lime and rust deposits. With a very good rinsing afterward, it would have been good as new. You can use that stuff in your coffee maker (top and bottom) too, but make sure you give it a really good rinsing before making coffee in it again.
