A coworker of mine has over 20 cats (she does a lot of rescue). Until now, she has used clay litter, and empties it each day & cleans the pans...12 litter pans in all! Obviously this is extremely time consuming and tiring. She's never been a believer in scoopable litter as she is worried about the smell. She has decided to try scoopable on a trial basis. I told her that I remembered hearing about littermate additive, and perhaps that would work best for her. I've never used it, and don't know anyone who does. Has anyone ever used it? How well does it work? How expensive is it to use? How much longer can you go before having to change the litter in its entirety? If you liked it, and would recommend it, how much would she initially have to order for 12 pans? Any information on this would be great! Thanks in advance!

Littermate is an additive that you mix with regular clay litter which makes it clumping litter...not quite the same as baking soda.;)

People on here have also recommended using chicken feed as litter. Everyone seems to like it and you can get a 50lb bag for around $8 or so. Very cost effective, but for me, I didn't like the smell. No one else seemed to mention the smell problems and I am thinking I bought the wrong kind or something. So that is another option you coulod use too.

I think scoopable covers smells better than non scoopable. With 20 cats though some people use wood pellets and stuff like that for cost reasons. Ive heard of littermate and it sounds like a cheap way to convert regular litter to scooping, never tried it b/c it isn't available in the pet store.

I thought I was the only one who didn't like the smell of the corn based litter!!!!:lol3: I couldn't handle it at all.

I use the chn feed with great results... 50lbs covers about six ex large boxes
