I've 3 babies. One is always trying to catch his breath, it's not asthma...Vet took an XRAY and says he's all inflammed inside...she thought it was the litter..at the time it was tidy cat...she suggested the newspaper type...welll they have certainly let me know they don't like it...and left surprises all over the room. but, Norton isn't gasping as much...maybe once a week, before it was so often we had to use prednisone on him. I'd like to change so they all start using the box again. Is this new brand you're discussing in Petco or Petsmart. I I will try it but I only hope Norton can handle it.

I am just as allergic to litter box perfumes as your Norton is!! I use unscented JonnyCat & also chicken feed (laying mash) with a thin layer of Arm&Hammer UNSCENTED clumping litter. I provide several boxes per cat & find that my crew each has a preference for each "job" with the JonnyCat being the fave for urine & the laying mash getting most of the poo as well as some pee. More boxes = less smell for my household.

I separated these posts from the other thread so it can get the attention it deserves. I'll also move this to Care & Grooming. :)

There are several natural litters (not clay-based) you could try.... World's Best Cat Litter which is made from corn, but pretty expensive. But it clumps and controls odors well. There's Shweat Scoop (I think that's what it's called) that's wheat based. I've heard it controls odors well, but doesn't clump as well as World's Best. It's not as expensive as World's Best. Then there's the newspaper one which doesn't sound like it's working too well for you. There's Feline Pine which I've never tried. Arm & Hammer just came out with a new all-natural litter called High Performance. I found some at Target yesterday....$11.50 for a 15 lb. bag and it says it's supposed to last as long as 30 lbs. of litter. I'm sure there are other natural litters I haven't mentioned. All the ones I mentioned you can get at Petco or PetSmart except for the Arm & Hammer one.
I definitely agree you need to stop using a clay clumping litter. Right now I'm using the World's Best and I love it! I used to use Tidy Cats and my kitties were always sneezing with that stuff. Anyway, you should just try some different ones and see which one they like best. :)
