So far I haven't found anything that clumps that hard. Though I do have to say Tidy cat does as good a job as can be found. Or at least that has been my experience. It still leaves behind a little urine waste though. I will be watching this thread to see if any one else comes up with a better litter.

Well, after trial and error, I'm going to try World's best as my last resort, but if that doesn't work, I am going back to Everclean, athsma or not. I simply cannot find another unscented litter that does the job I need for 7 cats. Everclean is really dusty but the others don't cut odor or clump worth a poop. No pun intended. :)

I think Fresh Step (regular clumpy clay kind) clumps pretty hard. That is, if it is at least five minutes old, and also not stuck to the edges or bottom of the box, a downfall for any litter. I never have a problem with it falling apart when scooping, or leaving any behind.

... clumps pretty hard. I actually mixed in some borax with it (some cats can be sensitive) recently and when cleaning it the other day, there was a clump the size of two baseballs that came out in one big piece...

How weird to be critiquing cat pee!

I used to think arm & Hammer was great but I've changed my mind after using it a lot lately- crumbles everywhere! It is good on the smell factor. I like fresh step and tidy cats. Fresh step is a bit better on smell than tidy cats and clumps well, but it is extremely dusty, and the fragrance is kinda yucky.

I got a litter maid, and tried swheat scoop in it. That was a mistake, the pee never hardens. It just stays gummy, and so it gets caught in the tines. I was going to try WBCL, but some one on here told me it is just like swheat scoop, in that it stays gummy. So I went back to tidy cat multi cat, it worked well before. I just wanted something I could toss in the toilet. Thought it would be faster clean up that way. But my toilet keeps backing up, so I had to just dump it in the garbage any ways. So Tidy cat was just as good, or rather I think better then Swheat scoop. I'm just glad my husband let me get the litter maid, it should help with clean up.

I even had a stuffed up toilet when I used the flushable kind. I doubt toilets really like that stuff.

I've tried many brands & my favorite is Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra (http://www.preciouscat.com/) in the blue bag. I but it at Petsmart. It clumps really hard, it's nearly dust free, controls odors well & it's unscented. Maxie has allergies & I has sneeze attacks & a runny eye with scented litters or those perfumey litter additives.

I also love Dr Elsey's precious cat ultra (blue bag).
My girl has a serious UTI so you all know how many times
they visit the litter. So you need a good product.
Not dusty and clumps very hard.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies! I use litter from Pets Supplies Plus, I can't remeber the name exactly, but I've been looking for something new to try and since there's a Petsmart opening in my town, and speaking of Ms Blackie, we're neighbors! I live in Medina!

I will disagree there. We only used one bag of swheat scoop because the clumps were huge and our toilet coudln't even get one of the clumps down. I was pretty dissapointed with the clumping ability. So we tried WBCL. It was awesome!! Small tight clumps, easily flushed. It was a huge improvement from the pine litter and the swheat scoop we tried before. Now we are on to chicken feed in an attempt to save money :) .

I noticed while in the store yesterday that Tidy Cats has a new blurb on the label that says "new super clumping" something or other, so I think they have tweaked the formula. There is nothing on the website about it, but I did see the new label.

I have tried nearly everything in a search for a perfect litter. Tidy Cats IMO clumps best, but still sometimes leaves tiny fragments. Arm & Hammer tracks less, and tracking is the biggest of my problems in a couple of rooms so half my boxes are Tidy Cats and half Arm & Hammer.

Nothing is perfect, I guess. I haven't yet tried Feline Pine but I guess I should. One of my kitties races into the box, scratches like a demon, potties, and leaps out all in the space of 2 seconds so he flings litter everywhere. The boxes are 12" high, I have rugs all over, and he still makes me vacuum twice a day. AArgh.

I just tried out tidy cat, and it didn't want to work as well as it use to. Do you know if this litter you mentioned will work as well in a litter maid? It scoops the pee and poo up in about 10 min after the cat leaves the box. Is that long enough for this litter to harden. So it doesn't leave any pee behind? I hate that when it happens, because that is where all the smell is.

Problem is I don't want to flush it down my toilet. It clogs up every time. So I got a litter maid, to help keep the smell down while I was at work. But the stuff you are talking about would get caught up in the tines.

I like tidy cat, but really can't stand that it leaves those tiny fragments behind. That is what smells so bad. As for Arm and Hammer do you think it woud clump tight enough to use in my litter maid?

Arm & Hammer does ok, but i think tidy cats does better - that's why i switched. i haven't found that the little pieces cause that much odor - i just scoop them when i get home w/a handheld scooper.

I find that my guys don't care for those little pieces, and it's pee, it smells to me. LOL I try and scoop them up with the litter scoop, but they are too fine. I have heard of a scooper from one of the threads on here, that is suppose to work at getting even those little pieces. I will have to look into getting that. Thanks for the info though. :-)

Look in the kitchen utensil section of your grocery store- they have ladles with small holes in them that work really well on the fragments. I don't use it every time I scoop as they drain really slowly and it takes forever to scoop a whole box, much less four. But if the fragments really annoy you it might be something you'd like.

Also- when my husband scoops he does it really vigorously and tends to break up the urine balls way worse than I do. Maybe slow down a bit and try "zen scooping"?

Zen scooping, now that is funny. LOL I have a litter maid, and I can't control how fast it scoops the litter. LOL But I clean up the little fragments afterwards. So your advise about the ladles is a good one thanks.

I don't have a littermaid, but on the Dr. Elsey's website it says that it does work with automatic litterboxes. I think that the pee clumps be hard in 10 minutes... I've scooped sooner that that & they were hard. :)

Littermate (a litter box additive that you mix with clay litter to cause clumping) typically clumps like little concrete blocks. If your cat pees down the side of the box, sometimes it breaks up, but when they pee in the middle, it's solid balls. If you don't have the box filled above the 3" mark as they suggest, it doesn't work as well. Been using it for about 18 months now and love it.

http://www.littermate.com/

I've tried Dr. Elsey's litter and while it is very good, it's a lot more expensive than using Littermate, which clumps better and controls the smell better.

I only buy WBCL (small animal and cat) it clumps really well (especially compared to swheat scoop, I tried it once and it was so sticky)

LOL!!! That is so funny!! I tease my LuckyGirl and call her Shirley Temple! I swear she tap dances in the litter!!! She kicks :hyper: it EVERYWHERE!!! With all four paws going at the same time! And...as soon as I take out the old litter...before I even get to fill the littler box, there may be 3 granules in there, she's darting :dash: in the box to poop! :stomp: @!#$@#!@!@ I say. But she doesn't care. She just wants to tap away :hobbes: in there and make it smell like her own!!! =) Whatever makes her happy!

Kiwis just aren't into clumping litter here. I think we've got two brands and after we found out some local kittens had stomach problems we just went back to our normal litter. It was all the rage here a few years ago for a little while.

I've used Tidy Cat for several yrs with good result, but need something that works better on odor control. The new Tidy Lock formula may be hard-clumping and pretty much crumble-free, but my cats still manage to scatter it all over our hardwood floors. I can't use a litter mat because I have one cat who thinks those are for urinating on.

I tried the new Small Spaces Tidy Cat and it had a horrendous scent! The smell is driving us crazy, so I bought some Feline Pine today to see how it works. Does anyone know if chicken feed is good at odor control?

I don't care if it's flushable. I save my plastic grocery sacks and bag up the waste anyway.
