Hey everyone,
By boyfriend and I got Jackson a collar as soon as we got him. He is also registerd on a site called PetLynx, so he needs that tag to hang from his collar if he ever gets out and someone finds him. (petlynx is a tracking system). I have heard stories of cats grooming themselves and getting there jaw caugt in there collar and being seriously hurt and possible death. I do make sure his collar is not to loose. How do u know.
So evertytime I go to school or leave him for a period of time, Iam either VERY stressed out, or I take his collar off. I want to keep his collar on at all times in case he ever does get outside. because without that collar...no-one would know who this beautiful boy belongs too....
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and I would be put at ease.

You should be able to fit 2 fingers underneath. And you want a safety collar, they come apart very easily if he gets caught on anything. Baker used to get his jaw caught and it came off with no problem.

My girls have safety collars. What I do is pull on them a bit in the store to see how hard it is for them to come apart. I'll see if I can find a link to the ones I get. I've had a few with this clasp and no problems!

Yes, actaully Jackson njust got a microchip0 when he was neutered the other day! The things your able to do are amazing. You don't think I will need a collar because he is microchipped?

Check out beastie bands. I get mine from a site called Robbins pet care. Check out this link. http://shop.robbinspetcare.com/cats/beastiebands.html If you don't know what beastie bands are, they are neoprene and they velcro to close. If a kitty puts too much pressure on the velcro, it comes apart. Also when Jasmine was a kitten, she has her beastie band on and it was too loose and she got it in her mouth and she just chewed through it. They are very soft so if the kitty does happen to get it in their mouth, they can just chew through it. I always keep them tighter now though. They are very stretchy so they can also stretch if the kitty does happen to get caught on something. Now if we go somewhere I am not worried that they will get caught on something. The average bear doesn't know of microchipping, let alone have a reader, and some people just can't/won't take every cat that shows up to a shelter or a vet's office. The only other way they'd be able to know that he's not just a well-fed stray is with printed information that they can read, rather than a microchip that they can't see.

I complely agree. My husband's mom was the one who found rudy and she didn't even think of taking him to see if he had a microchip.She immediatly did it after I suggested it though. A Lot of people don't even think of doing something like taking a cat to the vet to see if they have a microchip. A collar is the best chance for a cat to be returned if they get lost. I can guarantee if Rudy had a collar on, his old owners would have been contacted.But he didn't, so he became ours and we love him soooo much!:love: (i'm kinda glad it worked out the way it did because now we have another wonderful cat:blush: )

Sierra and Serenity wear safety collars, each with their bell and engraved tag containing their name and our address and phone #. I agree with the recommendation that you should be able to fit two fingers between the collar and Jackson's neck. Here (http://www.catnipetc.com/embroideredcollars.html) are my girlies' embroydered safety collars. I have them embroydered with only their names, though, and not the telephone # option.:) We've been ordering these for years and find thiem to be excellent quality, replacing them twice a year, at Birthdays and Christmas. With Serenity and Sierra's Birthdays coming up, it's about time to order again!:clap:

No.
I don't keep collars on my cats or my dogs. The only collars the dogs have are hanging on a hook on the ends of their leashes.
