Those collars are very cute, but how is the clasp on it? Doesn't look like it would open as easily as my current safety collars.

Yeah, please post if anyone finds out anything more about the clasps... these look really cute and I'd think they wouldn't wear too much like petstore collars do from the kitties scratching their necks with back paws (I've had to get new collars for Ollie cuz they get to looking like they've been cheese grated after awhile and it's very unattractive!).... that's the main reason I'd consider purchasing one and the price is right, plus she's willing to use custom fabric if you dont see something you like.... if we get conformation on the clasp, I'll probably order one....

I agree. I like them but what about the clasp. I also use a safety collar.

The collars are safety collars, it has a plastic clasp that will come apart if she gets into some trouble. I got the collar with the personal identification on it. My cat sleeps in the same room with me and I am a very light sleeper, so I needed a collar that had her name and my phone # on it and this collar is sooo cute and the lady picked out a thread that would work great with the collar fabric I picked out. I have had my collar for about 4 months now and it is very durable the thread does not come out and there is no coming apart of the collar or anything! Hope this helps!

Sounds good... I think we all just wanted to be able to see the clasps for ourselves (or hear from someone who had) to be absolutely SURE they're safety clasps.... I'll probably order one sometime soon in royal blue, since that's "Oliver's Color" hahaha... thanks

I have ordered these collars and they are great! My cats have had no trouble with them and I love the fact that you can choose from so many designs and get them personalised. I ordered from the UK and the shipping costs were only $4 and I ordered several collars. I purchased from their ebay shop.

Well, it's finally time for Ollie to get a new collar, so of course I'm going with this site! I emailed her to ask if she could do plain royal blue, and she went out today to look for fabric! She sounds really nice and was very helpful and quick to respond to my email... I told her how pet store collars get shreaded from usual neck scratchings and she said her female ragdoll has been wearing her bumblebee print collar for over a year now (and she has all her claws) and there's no sign of damage at all! So I'm REALLY excited to more than likely not have to buy a new collar for at least several years.... It's going to be embroidered with his name and my number and I'm also ordering a "tuna breath" collar charm (she lists them as collar charms, but I think I'll be using it as a zipper pull on Ollie's personal luggage - yes, he has a duffle bag that's just for all his "crap" for traveling between home and school... and he may have to come on vacation with us this year too!)... anyhow... my total order with shipping would be about $18, which I'm more than willing to fork over for such a great quality collar! I'll be sure to update y'all when the collar arrives! (<--- I'm a happy/excited mama cat about all this, hehe!)

The clasps are exactly the same as the Lupine pet ones, and they are indeed breakaway. Much better breakaway than the standard pet store ones, too! If you look at the pic Minxie posted you'll notice that one side of the part that buckles into the other side is shaped differently--what makes it breakaway. They come apart with a little less pressure, but don't fall off. And they're harder for the cat to chew apart and destroy (lupine guarantees theirs for life "even if chewed", I'm sure this seller's buckles are pretty much the same).

And she lives right near my high school boyfriend! Heheheheee! I'm not sure why that matters, but I thought it was interesting. I can pretty much guarantee you where she gets her supplies from-at least some of them. It's the same store my mom buys her stained glass stuff from, and it's called the Busy Beaver. (Get it, cause its in Beavercreek?)

I love the collars at www.almost-human.com but i can't justify paying over $20 for somthing that my cats will fprobley break, so i'm going to cut up a few necklaces and make my own cheap knockoffs. Is an streachy elastic coller considered a breakaway (as it will eventually snap in half) or is it a special kind of clasp?

Zissou'sMom
29th May 2006, 01:08 AM
A piece of elastic is about the most dangerous thing I can imagine putting around your cats neck, especially one with beads on it. Yes, it will break, and then suddenly your cat has a piece of elastic to play with and possibly swallow and possibly obstruct her intestines, and the same thing goes for the beads that are all over the floor now. Also, it will be very hard to fit elastic because it stretches so much... so how do you make it not too tight but at the same time not so loose that she can't get it over her head? I don't think you can. If it doesn't break it probably won't come off and that's just as dangerous. Best case scenario, if the need arises, is that it does happen to come off and leave, um 14k gold in a tree... but I wouldn't risk it and my cat doesn't even go outside.

They do make safety-stretch collars, but they are about half an inch wide and are elasticized nylon, usually, with a buckle. These have the same purpose as the regular breakaway ones in that if the cat gets stuck the weight is enough to stretch the collar so that they can slip out of it.

Breakaway collars are usually nylon (these are fabric) with a special clasp that won't come off (well, a lot of cats have spent hours figuring out how to get them off!) unless about four pounds of pressure is put on them, so if the collar gets caught in bushes or on a tree the cat does not hang.

That's what Ollie's wearing now, and he's basically shreaded it because he has all his claws, so when he scratches his neck it tears at the collar... that's why I'm so excited for these ragtime collars!

I also agree about the necklace type things... super bad idea

Several weeks and many playfights later, the ragtime collars are still going strong and still look new! Surprised that they haven't got dirty or ripped with all the mischief the kittens get up to!

I really recommend them! :)

On her shipping info page (i believe it's that page... I definitely saw it on her site though) she quotes shipping prices in the USA and Canada and says she will ship elsewhere, but payment must be in USD and to contact her (via email) for shipping costs - she's a really nice lady and I'm sure will give you any info you need about it!

I THINK I paid approx. $38 for 5 collars, all personalised, including shipping to the UK.

With each personalised collar being around $6 - that would make postage to the UK around $8...something like that.

$8 - that's about £4, right? That's not half bad!

Just out of curiousity.... those of you who bought these collars with the personal embroidering and they're holding up AMAZINGLY, do those cats have their back claws? (I know the majority of us here are against the declaw, but sometimes our kitties come to us already that way)... I'm definitely still buying and having Ollie's collar personalized - just kind of curious if claws ever catch the embroidery thread during scratches.... I'm so super excited to get him his new collar!

Haha, sounds like Ollie - bunnykicking champion of the world (with my recent illness that took forever to diagnose, I was actually tested for cat scratch fever because of the marks Oliver can leave during intense play sessions, haha... I dont mind though) sounds like his collar will hold up just fine when I get it!

I'm so excited! She told me today she managed to find two fabrics she thought I'd like so I had my choice!

BTW, if any of y'all are or have recently contacted her: she told me today she's in the process of getting ready to sell her house, so things are busy in her life right now, but she's definitely still doing the collars and will email you back! I had emailed her, I think, on Saturday (gosh, I cant remember for sure) and she's already been out and found a custom fabric for me.... just be patient! hehe

Woot! Oliver's collar came in the mail today and it's gorgeous (er, I mean handsome, haha).... It's exactly what I wanted and got here really fast - she sent it out on Friday... I'll try to get a pic of it and post it (I had my phone number embroidered, so I'll have to block that out somehow, hehe)... Oliver was so excited like he knew it was for him! haha, it looks perfect on him - I love it!

awh, those are adorable. I bookmarked that page, and I'll definitely be ordering - once my kittens are big enough to wear them. :)

Should kittens wear collars? or should I wait until they're fully grown?

I got my two collars from there. Rambo got the camouflage print, and Lucky got pink camouflage. So hard to choose. I put their old ID tags on them. And they seem perfectly fine with them. Rambo hated all the other collars I tried, but these ones seem much lighter (and they do breakaway easy...I tried.) Can't wait to order more.

I still have yet to take pics of Oliver in his new collar for this site and to send to the maker... I know I know, bad mama but I've been busy with an online class, haha.... as for kittens wearing collars, I've never owned a kitten myself (Oliver was about 3 when I took him off the streets) but I think if it were me and I was gonna collar my kittens, I wouldn't spend quite so much money on such a high quality collar that they'll soon grow out of... of course I'm in no way putting down her product, praising it actaully! I guess I'm speaking from the perspective of a poor collage student, haha... they would be cute keepsakes to have once they're grown out of though

I'll take pics as soon as I can! The collar does break away easily (yet not too easily, like he's not losing it all the time) and came with a little bell... I added his ID tag and his microchip tag (now that he's chipped!)... It's still very lightweight - prolly lighter than any other collar he's had, and it makes enough nosie (sounds kinda like someone's keys/keyrings klinking together) to warn my poor dog when the monster is prowling nearby, haha :lol3:

Someone smack my hand please and take my credit card away from me.....

I have just bought 4 personalised kitten collars from Ragtime Collars for the 4 kittens..I could not resist!

Hubby says the cats all have about 2 collars each already...but he doesn't understand... I told him 'How many ties do you have? More than 2 , right'?

His reply was 'Yes I wear those ties to work...and the day those cats earn a good day's wage is the day they can have as many collars as they like!'.

Ha ha! :lol3:

i broke down & ordered these for my babies - & i love them! this is what i got: Chip got the mini-flames #20 - his new nickname is 'Flame-boy' :lol3:. Pixel got the black paws on red, #211 looks great with her black & white coat. Cable got the white paws/pink hearts on black #217 - looks pretty, especially with her pink soft paws nails - she's a pinky girl! & Java got the orange butterflies, #95 . it's my least favorite - i think i should have gone with a contrasting color, like lime or turquoise instead of the orange... i'll do that next time. the collar is pretty, & just don't like the way it interacts with her coat colors. her turquoise nails look good, tho!
thanks for the suggestion!

It's so hard to resist that site! I just got two new ones for my two. Lucky got Hawaiian print in lime green (looks great with her black and white) and Rambo (he's tougher to pick for...any thoughts??) I just got him the blue camouflage.

I know what you mean- sometimes it's hard to decide which will look best on your cat!

Maui is a tabby and I originally wanted something dark blue but still bright (if that makes any sense) but there wasn't anything like that... so I settled for red! Plus Chad had to throw in the whole "well it can't be anything girly" since Maui is a boy!

Did you look on ebay? I found that to be easier because I could see what they actually look like already made with each fabric. They're not all on there but I did see some fabrics that I hadn't seen on her site.

* I just wanted to add that I can't wait for the holidays to start coming so I can get him holiday collars! YAY!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I just got my collars from her today in the mail and they are awsome.
I got chester a christmas one with christmas trees, and a blue one with red crabs.
I got dynah a kitten one that is yellow with bugs and flowers on it, and 2 adult ones (for when she gets bigger), one with pink hibiscus and the other with yellow and orange butterflies on it.
They are made from fabric, and I guess I was a little surprised that they weren't stiff like a store bought collar is, but they're lightweight, have a great breakaway clasp and the bells are even quiet enough to handle.
anyway...once again these are tested and recomended.

Yeah, unfortunately and fortunately I'm a sucker for nick nacks...and it seems that different collars goes along with that. I had wanted to get Dynah some collars anyway and I figured I'd save the shipping and get her some adult collars while I was getting her "we're moving" kitten collar.
Also, chester has had a long run of collars that end up smelling funny (out of the package...I think it's the glue they use) so when you wrote that these ones were good, I was so excited. I'm sure they'll be getting more (like birthday ones) throughout the year.

Such a sucker...but kitties need their flashy things too :)

I've been looking around for a new collar but I haven't been able to find any that I really liked. they really are great collars. Pixel's had difficulty with the synthetic ones in the past, but she seems to be doing okay with this cotton one [she has a tendency to lose the fur on her neck with the others]. & their tags are easy to attach.

doh! well, it was only $5. You should get a stuffed animal for a child (not too young) and put the collar on it as a present...their own pet "kitty"

I'm pretty sure that Dynah's eyes are developing yellow, it's hard to tell so young (9 weeks) but they're pretty mustardy. the butterflies will look awsome one her.
Thanks for the offer...if I need a new butterfly, I'll let you know :)
