after a vigorous grooming session where I got out a lot of hair, I noticed little wihte specks on Miko's fur that looked like dandruff.
Is this just flakes of dry skin that shed during brushing?
Or something I should worry about?

I don't know if that's your cat's problem, but one of my friends' cats--a big black-and-white shorthair--has a horrid dandruff problem. Brushing seems to help, though--most of the dandruff gets removed while brushing and doesn't stay in her fur.

Yes. I've seen some pretty terrible dandruff on one cat (also a black and white shorthair). If you so much as touched her, it'd be everywhere. She was only fed meow mix, which probably had a lot to do with it.

Oliver occasionally gets some dandruff (not like rediculous cases, just a little), usually during dry winter months... a better diet, brushing and an occasional bath would help... happens to my dog (black lab) too and she eats a top of the line dog food, so it's not always just diet that's an issue...

oh yes, Samuel has quite a bit on the lower half of his back. I'm not sure why either, but brushing every day has helped a bit.

I had a short haired black and white cat aswell, who was quite over weight, he too had horid dandruff, Talk to your vet, there is a shampoo out there to help your poor guy out!!!

Beauty and Patches have terrible dandruff. I've been told thanks to everyone here that's its mainly lack of Omega 3 and 6 in their diet. I tried it for a week and there skin was better.

If you continue to see it, upgrade your cats diet to something with Omega-3 2.5% or more. (royal Canin is good, Iams, all in all anything that costs $8 and above per bag :lol3:).
If your budget is right, buy capsule suppliments from any vitamin store, breakopen the capsule and add to their water or food.

If its still not working, call your vet
