Hi,

Does anyone know any reputable Singapura breeders located in the Northeast area?

Thanks for your help.

Sincerely,

Sandie

The only one I know of lives in CT. Otherwise you may want to do a search on the net or look into the cat fancy magazine. It is best if you can visit the persons home though. This way you can see first hand the living conditions of the owners and the cats. It is the best way to judge a responsable breeder.

Hi,

Thank you for the information. I plan on attending upcoming cat shows and speaking with all the different Singapura breeders. It's just so hard getting started. When I was researching the Birman breed, I had excellent responses from breeders and, as a result, two lovely Birman litter mates share our home (they just turned 7)!
I'm not rushing into another kitten just yet, as two kitties that were rescues also share our home in addition to the Birmans, but the breed fasinates me.

Thanks again.

Sincerely,

Sandie

What shows are coming up in that area? Yes, I agree they are a very facinating cat. The one breeder I know shows her in the same association as I do. I had to laugh watching this cat. The cat stole every one of the judges toys and would not give it up. Finally each judge just let the cat have it..hehe. I am so very leary of most breeders now. I myself am a breeder and I have seen some pretty sad things! I hope eventually you find just the right one!!

Sandie,

What breed of cats do you have? Or should I say, have you? haha. I really love my Birman babies. They are wonderful!

From what I've read, there seems to be different groups within the Singapura breed. Is that so? I know within the Birman breeders there are those that are for the "new" colors and the breeders that just want the traditional colors of blue, seal, chocolate and lilac. I was very surprised at how political the cat fancy is!

Sincerely,

Sandie

I know what you mean about political!! I actually show in an association that doesn't have too much of that. I am in it for the love of the cats and not to bicker about it.
I havnt heard anything as far as any dispute on the singapura yet. I have only seen the traditional colors so far. However I only know the one breeder and what I have read in the article about them in Cat Fancy. I do know what it's like to be in NBC (new breed or color) class. Any new color trying to get accepted has to show in this class for a certain time period.
I am breeding the munchkin cats. I fell in love with them years ago and only recently decided to start breeding them. I am pretty partial to them, but love all cats. I am currently on a waiting list for a Maine Coon Cat. I finally found a breeder I trust and respect and now I just have to wait for the color I want. I have 4 tradition munchkins, 2 Long legged munchkins and 5 domestic cats right now. 2 of my domestics are what the breeder called throw away cats. They happen to be Manx that have tails. He was going to dump them at the pound.
I am sure you know the feeling, that once you hit 2 or 3 cats...what is one more baby!!

Hi,

Dump them at the pound! Horrible. How can you be a responsible breeder and do that to one of your babies???
People never surprise me. Or actually, they do!

The Munckin is so cute. My friend has a Maine Coon. A lovely cat. Just gorgeous! What color are you waiting for?

Sorry if I don't respond again tonight. I'm falling asleep. It's been nice talking to you. Hope to talk with you tomorrow night. All my best in health and happiness.

Sincerely,

Frannie

Ok Sandie why is this the first I'm hearing about the Coon? What color are you waiting for and I think I know who you are getting it from. She is with our group am I right. If so, boy I wouldn't want him to get mad at you. Anyway, I can't wait to see the babies in May.

Ah, yes irresposible breeders never cease to amaze me!! I would no sooner put any cat in jeopordy than my own child!
I am going to buy a silver tabby male Maine Coon Cat. I have been looking for ahwile now. I searched through the breeders in TICA and of course AACE. I do not deal with CFA at all because they are too oppinonated for me. They refuse to accept that a munchkin is not a deformity. After much himming and hawing, I asked a wonderful breeder if I could buy one of her kittens. I have 2 domestics that resemble the Maine coon, but I really do want a pure breed.
Have you ever been to a cat show? If so, which ones have you been to?
Frannie..I am sure I will be e mailing you..hehe. I guess you werent there when I jumped for joy when Carla said she would let me know when she has a litter of possible silvers. I am going to have to have someone else bring my non standard up so you wont know which one it is..hehe as if!

I started going to cat shows when I was researching the Birman breed. CFA mostly. New Jersey, Maine and New York are the only states that I have travelled to. (well, I live in Albany, New York, so I guess New York doesn't really count). Anyway I've been to the National Birman Fanciers show held at Carney's Point, New Jersey a couple of times. I always wanted to go to the National Birman show in Medina, Ohio but never quite made it. The breeder that my Birman boys came from doesn't breed anymore (she got tired of all the politics). She was my mentor and I could see me really getting into showing if she was still in the cat fancy. But I don't want to learn trial by fire, so to speak so I just go and look at all the kitties and talk to old friends. I went to a Ragdoll Convention in New Jersey a couple of years ago -- that was really neat. I met many wonderful folks and everyone seemed just like their kitties, kind of laid back!
Do you show your kitties??
Talk to you soon. Take care.

Sincerely,

Sandie

LOL, yes NY counts since Albany is in the middle of nowhere so to speak. Ny is such a LONG state. Driving through a few times I about went mental.
I have had a lot of breeders get fed up with the politics. Thats why I have stuck with AACE. While I am sure they have some issues, it is not nearly like any of the others I have tried. I find myself looking forward to every show. Which I suppose answers your question. I show my munchkins and my domestics with AACE. If you are interested in showing, let me know. We have at least 4 shows a year in Jersey. I would be happy to help you and loan you a cage curtain. If not, you should at least stop by one and see how AACE works. I am not sure how far it would be for you. I know in May we have one in Rockaway. Theres about 4 of us from CT that are going up there for the weekend. Matter of fact theres a show the 31st and 1st here in CT we are going to. I am just taking 2 of my domestics to this one. I always look forward to the weekends with my cat friends.
Where have you been looking for your Singapura?

How sweet! Thank you for such a kind offer. I will definitely keep you in mind if I ever do get that show kitty and take the plunge, so to speak! I just started looking at the Singapura. Actually, my petite domestic black and white shorthair got me interested. After reading the Singapura breed description it just reminded me so much of Mia. The only thing is that she is a scaredy cat when it comes to everything in the world. She recovers in a second and never shies away from me. She sleeps with me, keeps my lap warm each evening and is constantly looking to play! She amuzes herself, either with pens or pennies or pieces of paper or the cat track -- she actually moves it under the carpet and then sits in front of it with just her paws under the carpet and hits the roller ball back and forth. Anyway, she is a very interactive kitty and the Singapura sounds similar, very endearing. Don't get me wrong, the Birmans are lovely. They have their own graceful style. We'll see. I still want to meet many breeders and their Singapuras and do my homework. I might be ready in a couple of years! haha!
I haven't heard of the AACE. What does that stand for?? I'm glad you're happy with that club. Cat showing should be enjoyable and it sounds like you enjoy it very much. How many kitties do you show at each show? I'll look for the show on the 31st and maybe I'll be able to get hubby to take a ride. He loves the motel room with the remote control!
Well, thanks again for your offer. You have a nice night and hope to speak with you again soon.

Sincerely,

Sandie

You are so welcome. I would have been lost had it not been for a friend of mine. I definatly enjoy showing. I like it most because I get to spend the weekend with true cat lovers. I also get to spend a weekend with a select few cats. I usually take a minimum of 2 cats. The most I have ever schlept to a show is 5 LOL. AACE stands for American Association of Cat Enthusiasts. You know, you can also bring one of your domestic cats :)
Have you looked into the Abby's at all? They are very similar but I dont think quite as mischevious. I will have to find out when the one will bring her Singapura to a show.
