Abi slept in the bathroom last night so she wouldnt have so many things to jump on, well this morning I let her out of the bathroom and she is acting like nothing was done to her. She wants to run, wrestle with air, play hockey with anything she can bat. I can't wrestle her to the floor to keep her from being so active. A friend, whom I called at 10 last night ready to cry, reassures me that she won't go further physically than is okay for her body, but I am not so sure.

I dont intend to keep her in a bathroom for a week- unless you experts tell me to do this- so do I trust the healing gods and let her be a cat? this is all so new to me.

All cats react differently to surgery. Dushka was in obvious pain and fairly inactive for three days, Elllie came home and ate and played normally as soon as she was properly awake, and Persil was somewhere in between. So I would not worry, just watch her and look at her wound regularly to ensure it is not open or swollen abnormally.

I agree with Jenny! Each cat reacts differently!

Molly was pretty active once she woke up fully and even decided that she's finish the vet's job off by removing a couple of stitches! :rolleyes: So I would also suggest that you keep and eye on how much attention she is giving the area and if she's pulling out stitches! :)

If she does pull any out, check the area and call your vet as they might want to see her! :) Nothing to worry about though, Molly was fine, even with removing her own stitches - she just had an antibiotic injection to be on the safe side! :)

Ling was spayed on Monday :) And she's running around, jumping on chairs/beds like nothing bothers her. A friend of mine laughed when the vet says "keep them quiet" - a few of hers came home to race to the top of the tree house when they got out of the carrier.

You don't want them to be getting into wrestling matches with stitches (since cats fight each other with back feet). As long as you check the stitches once/twice a day to be sure everything is ok; let her be a cat.

I dont intend to keep her in a bathroom for a week- unless you experts tell me to do this- so do I trust the healing gods and let her be a cat? this is all so new to me.both Java & Cable were like this, too - the evening of surgery, they slept more than usuall. the next day, you wouldn't think they had had anything done - completely back to normal. they were 5-6 months old for their spays. i think the younger kittens usually bounce back faster.

Thanks everyone. I was a total wreak about making her follow the vet's orders. my husband finally brought me to my senses at 10 pm after a mini meltdown and tears. and she is absolutely fine today. yes she's climbed up her tree but she is also sleeping a little more than usual. Since this was the first time for me with spaying a cat I went a little bezerk with worry. thanks for tolerating my anxiety and reassuring me. y' all are the best !!!:bigthumb:

A week? That's a bit extreme. Usually 24-48 hours is sufficient. They seem to know that they can't do a lot of things well after they are spayed. Just try to keep her on the ground as much as possible and watch the site for draining, discharge or a lot of swelling.
