I have two cats and there coats are totally different.... 3CatCrew 21st January 2006, 07:50 PM I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure it could be a possible sign of a thyroid problem. STLGRL5 22nd January 2006, 06:48 AM Well kitty has not seen vet but I called vet today. They said its nothing to worry about too much.. Thyroid problem? Have u had a kitty like that before or something? STLGRL5 22nd January 2006, 06:54 AM Could it be mites?? Has kitty seen the vet?? I have two cats and there coats are totally different.... I don't think the kitty has mites.. CommonOddity042 22nd January 2006, 10:34 PM My foster kitty has very thin hair. Is that normal for at cat? It grew in normally after a few months of care. 3CatCrew 24th January 2006, 12:22 AM Well kitty has not seen vet but I called vet today. They said its nothing to worry about too much.. Thyroid problem? Have u had a kitty like that before or something? LOL, I'm sorry, like I said -- no expert -- but I do know that people's hair thins out with thyroid problems, so I thought it could be a possible sign of a problem with a cat as well. But don't mind me, I didn't mean to worry you -- I am one of those paranoid, check with your vet about everything people. If the vet said it was nothing to worry about, than it probably isn't. STLGRL5 24th January 2006, 01:26 AM Well the vet doesnt think its thyroid because she said thyroid happens in older cats. This one is 2 1/2.. The vet said it might be allergies or just diet. mzjazz2u 24th January 2006, 11:06 AM I've known of perfectly healthy cats that have had thin fur. And I agree with your vet that it likely could just be diet. Actually now that I think of it, Peaches came from the humane society and she had very thin fur when I first got her. Nothing thin about it now! One thing I don't agree with your vet on... cats of any age can have thyroid problems. I've had one that developed thyroid problems at 3 years old. And belonged to another board where other younger cats had the same problem. Maybe it's not as common though. coaster 24th January 2006, 10:39 PM Even if your vet doesn't think so, you can still have a blood test done. 3CatCrew 24th January 2006, 11:02 PM If the vet thinks changing diet might help, maybe try that first. Also, you might want to try an allergenic diet like that natural balance venison and green pea so you can rule out allergies and diet at the same time. Then if you see no improvment ask for the thyroid test? |
