I have two cats living with me in a one bedroom condo. The only place I have for the litter box is in the living room corner. I have the covered litter box which makes it less offensive should I have company. I've been using the Fresh Step clumping brand, but find that it can be dusty and the small granuales can stick the cats paw, which makes it easy for them to be re-deposited throughout my place. There are times when a soft clay forms on their paws which too, can be wiped off when they jump on my sofa, bed, etc.
Does someone have any suggestions for a non-smelling or pleasant smelling litter, that doesn't get all over my house? I like the clumping feature but am open to suggestions.

I like Ever Clean unsented (the red one) I use a plastic thing that has a removable grid just outside the box so any litter that is on their feet falls into it. Its made for cat litter.

I like Fresh Results by 8-in-1 (HEB or WalMart). I've heard that One Earth (health food stores) and Nature's Miracle litter (Petsmart & other pet stores) are similar too. It's made from corn cobs so it's flushable. It still tracks some, but isn't dusty at all, and it has a nice light pine scent and clumps fairly well. I have yet to find a litter that doesn't track at all.

I've recently come to like Yesterday's News. I used Feline Pine before, and had a littler tracking problem with that. YN controls odor better than the FP, doesn't track much (although my cats do like to fling it out of the box as they dig) and is relatively inexpensive.

Of the clumping brands I've tried, I've found that tidy cats is the least dusty, and arm & hammer is not as bad as fresh step. I like fresh step except for the dust factor- it smells okay and it clumps really well.

A few litter box suggestions- I used to keep mine in the far corner of my kitchen, my neighbor kept hers underneath the kitchen table.
Could you also keep an extra one in the bathroom or hallway?

We also have a one bedroom place. We put the litterbox in the bathroom next to the toilet. That way, we only have one small room to de-stinkify. Puppy doesn't seem to track litter outside of the bathroom, so cleanup isn't to hard.

since i live with a roommate the only space that is my own is my bedroom/bathroom so i of course keep both litterboxes side-by-side in the bathroom. i am currently using crystals litter but thinking i might want to switch to a clumping/flushable litter to make it more likely i'll clean out the box daily. i just don't know which litter to switch to and dont want to go through 3 or 4 different brands before i find one and confuse the cats. i'd also like it to not cost me an arm & a leg..

You could put fill each box with a different kind of litter and see which litter kitty prefers. I've never tried the crystals myself. One of my friends swears by them, but from what I recall, most people on the site don't use them.

i like that idea. when i first started using them i thought they were great. but now i'm not so sure. the smell is still really prominent at times and the ammonia smell before the litter needs to be changed is unbearable.

i wish i had room in my bathroom.. it's very narrow... no leg room for me, and not room for another box... unless i create my own. There is little room between the toilet and the tub and the toilet and the cabinet...
