I started clipping my cats' nails a few months ago - the vet said a regular set of human nail clippers would be fine, so I have been using them. Last week, I was checking the length of their nails and noticed that some of them are splintering and getting fuz caught in them. I never noticed this before I started clipping the nails. I never cut them very short because I am so afraid of clipping the vein - Am I doing something wrong to cause this splintering? Could something else be causing it?

I've always had that trouble when using human nail clippers. Cat nail clippers are designed specifically for the curved nail. It cuts the tip off quickly and easily. The regular nail clippers that we use are not designed for that, and the nail will splinter because of the pressure applied. Plus if the trimmers are dull, that can get you in trouble-
