I was clipping my kitten Ozzie's claws today and he squirmed and moved and I ended up clipping too close and he's bleeding. I added a little neosporin to the end but don't know if this is really ok... I asusme there isn't much I can do until it grows out but any ideas??

He's mad at me now too... I feel so bad!

He'll be ok. Just keep an eye on it. It will grow back and he'll forgive you

You want to stay out of the quick, that is the pinkish/red portion of the claw. This is where the blood supply is stored. Keep on hand septic powder and sprinkle a bit on the claw if you go to far. You just need to cut off the bare tip of the claw and nothing else.

Poor boy! I did that to Wiggies once, he forgave me! I keep a little bottle of Kwik Stop on hand, that's the septic powder Hissy mentioned. It did the trick to stop it bleeding.
I'm sure Ozzie will have forgotten all about it by now. :)

I did that to Sparkles once and for a LONG time she fought me whenever I got out the clippers. I'm talking over a year !! She tolerates it now but once the clippers come out the cats magically disappear :dash:

Yup, just grab some septic poweder at the pet store to keep on hand... that's what the vets use... stops the bleeding right away and the nail will grow back fine!

I've done that with one of my guinea pig's claws before now, how he screamed, it made me feel awful. Trouble is, sometimes it's not too easy to see where the quick is, so now I use an emery board on his claws. Maybe that would work for a cat?

It will be okay. It's going to be sore for a few days but not that big of a deal.
