I'm considering moving to London for grad school. And of course am looking to take my kitty but am a little intimidated by the daunting issues involved with taking a pet into the UK. Looks like they've managed to bypass the 6 months quarantine, which is A LOT better, but still a lot of prep work to do. How much do you think it would cost?

If this works out, my kitty will have lived in Japan, NY, and London. Lucky girl....

I know they have passports for pets now, but not sure how strict they still are with regards to allowing pets through?!.

A friend of mine did it when she was moving back to London and had no problems. If I remember it correctly, you have to microchip your pet, give him a rabies shot, then have him tested for rabies 6 months later by a blood test. All this info is saved on his microchip. She also needed to get a passport for her cat. At the end it was a lot of expenses but nothing undoable, and her move with the cat went very well with no problems.

That is no longer the case!!! That's why you do the microchip and vaccine 6 months before leaving so that the animal will not have to be quarantined!!!
