Can anyone help? My boss and his wife are Canadian and currently resident in New Zealand. I have flown my cats out from the UK to New Zealand, but don't know if the Canadian exporting is different from the UK...

They wish to take their mother's cat and ship it to them in New Zealand because their mother is going into a rest home and cannot keep the cat.

Anyone who has shipped a cat from Canada to New Zealand, or at least can help me with where to look would be appreciated.

Cheers
Diana

You will have to contact the New Zealand Embassy or Consulate for the regulations. I suspect it may be a bit more stringent from Canada as it is not a rabies-free country. Look online too - many countries have something on import of pets on their websites.

I'm from New Zealand and live in Canada. If we move back to NZ, we'll be shipping the boys over too. I don't actually have any advice, sorry, but I'm really interested in how this works out. I have a feeling that NZ will be very strict - make sure you have the requisite vet's certificates to prove the cat has all the right shots & is disease free. There's a mandatory quarantine period too i believe.

Just did a quick search - take a look at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries website:
maf quarantine (http://www.maf.govt.nz/quarantine/)

Yes there is a mandatory quarantine - 30 days. We are shipping our cats out as well. I advise your boss to start planning 4-6 months before the ship date because it is a long and drawn out process - the cats have to be vaccinated, etc. First, find the quarantine you want and they will give you a list of what you need to do - and you have to pay a deposit and its a good time to book it because they fill up easily. Good luck!
