From the Petsmart section on grooming:

(after trimming nails) "Follow up with the nail file, filing toward the tip to smooth the cut edge."

AS IF either of my kitties would stand for this...it's hard enough to keep them still long enough to get them clipped. :lol3:

Naw, you don't need to file them. I did this at first, too, and quickly discovered it's rather foolish advice. The cats groom their own nails -- they don't need any help from us. We only trim them for our own convenience.

Exactly!!, that's what scratching posts are for!.. Reilly would carve me a new behind if I ever tried to file his nails :lol3:

Sophie would NOT appreciate having her nails filed! She's mad enough after a clipping session!

My cat freaks out enough just from an attemped clipping. I am lucky if I can even finish the clipping of his nails. Sometimes I have do do half at a time. I would take me a week to finish the job if it included filing. That is the most silliest and ridiculous thing I have heard :flail: :bigmouth:

I tried this, but was very unsuccessful, and I am quite good at clipping cats claws.

whoever wrote that obviously had either a really laid back cat or a comatose one ;)
