Has anybody tried any of the sprays or other products out there for minimizing litter box odors and can comment on how well they work or don't work?

Which types of litter seem to control odor the best?

Even when I only had one cat, I used Tidy Cats (multiple cat), and Tidy Cat Antibacterial mixed.
They seem to work pretty darned well together.
Now that we have 6 cats, we still use that combo, and unless we miss scooping, you can't tell we even have cats if you go by smell alone.

We do still scoop our boxes twice a day minimum, and change them once a week.

i use a little baking soda since Zoey refuses to learn to cover her #2s...

We use Arm & Hammer Super Scoop Fragrance Free, and feel it's the best we've ever used!

I use Arm & Hammer for multiple cats and scoop twice daily. Works great!

When i Just had one cat I used The Worlds Best Cat Litter, and i couldnt stand the smell. Then we got 3 more cats and my boyfriend made me try Fresh Step, and I NEVER smell the litter, we change it every other day and have 4 cats, no smell. Its Awesome!!!!!!!!

We use Tidy Cats Crystals or else Fresh Step Crystals for their litter.

But to control the smell a little more between complete litter box changes, we use either the Arm and Hammer litter deodorizer or Tidy Cats Litter Deodorizer.
We shake a little of either one in with the litter and stir it around. Both of them work GREAT and I really reccomend them.

I use Tidy Cats Fresh Step, which seems pretty good. I used a spray called C-Dox when I change over the litter and clean the boxes: I clean them out, spray with Pam (to prevent waste clinging to the side) and then with CDox. I've also found that a charcoal-based air freshener helps too, since it seems to clean the smell rather than just cover it as perfume-based fresheners do.

i find that clumping litter is the best, i sometimes dont notice when one of them has had a poo in the tray in the front room till i go to switch the TV on and see it. i scoop mine a minimum of three times a day (after both mealtimes and just before going to bed) and they are fully cleaned out once a week. Have never tried litter tray deodoriser though, if one has done a really smelly poo i just spray some air freshener.

I use Catsan crystals and add a little Canaillou litter deodoriser powder, and there is no smell as long as the boxes are scooped and cleaned regularly.

I haven't experienced any specific LITTER persay that will help with the stink. I do, however, have excellent experience with the Arm & Hammer powder that they make, that you sprinkle over the litter and then mix in. That's the best thing I've found so far.

Another good tip...DO NOT use Johnny Cat litter...the stuff's just basically pure clay...and HORRIBLE (also keep away from store or generic-type brands).

There's quite a controversy going on about ozone/ion air purifiers. They generate ozone for odor control. From what I've read, it doesn't actually eliminate the odor, but deadens your sense of smell. The ozone generated can harm the linings of your lungs, and exacerbate asthma. I can't say for sure that this is the last word on them, but one of the articles I read was from the California EPA, so I'm a bit wary of them thus far. I didn't know any of this, but I was researching air purifiers because since it's been so hot, and I've had to close the windows and run the a/c, my kitten room has been smelling very...um..."kitteny". :nausea: I've found no good solution so far. :(

i scoop three times a day too. i keep one litter tray in the bathroom so scoop when i (pee or) poop! lol :lol3:

a really good deoddoriser if you ever wanted to try one is the wilkinsons own brand. i like their litter too.

Cheers for the tip, will check it out on Sat, cos i go there for cat stuff. HAve never bought litter from there cos it is too far to get it home. I get my TidyCat litter from the local Co-op

im going there to get some now because my cats stink today! i think its coz i caught one eating dog food...

I just tried out the Nature's Miracle clumping litter and I think it's helping some. I keep and Oust Fan near the box to mask the odors.

When I lived with my parents, they had (and still have) an air purifier/ionizer with ozone You can adjust the amount of ozone the unit produces. Believe me, if you have too much ozone concentrated in a room, you will get very dizzy, get a headache, and it will affect your breathing!! When it builds up like this, you can smell it. The salesman who sold my parents the unit, claimed that ozone is at a safe level as long as you can't smell it. I really don't know what to believe.
