Last summer I got a kitten around mid-july. During a hot spell, I felt bad leaving him cooped up in my hot(but not dangerously hot) apartment all day. One evening I noticed him napping on the vinyl floor of my very small kitchen. I thought- that's good, its cooler there than on the rug (the rest of my apt being carpeted).

Then it occured to me! I had bought a marble pastry board a few months before but never used it because I didn't have the counter space in my kitchen! I took it out and put it on the rug and introduced my kitten to it. A year later, its his favorite napping spot when its hot (its sweltering now!) Sometimes he drapes himself on it, other times he only puts his head or half his body on it. In any case, the marble always stays quite cool to the touch no matter how hot it is, even if he's been sleeping on it for a while. It's a constant source of cool.

I am sure many people with the benefit of stone floors or with marble/granite trims or floors in their house have seen kitties cool off on them in hot weather. This is just a tip for those of us stuck in apts or houses with only carpets or wood floors. Marble or granite slabs are fairly inexpensive, esp. if you get them as scrap from like a flooring or tiling place.

What a great idea! :clap: I may just go out an buy one. I know Lewis sleeps on the bathroom floor during the hottest days and will often "snuggle" with the cool toilet. :blush:

Now I know why the cats love going into the half bath and sitting by the toilet! The half bath and toilet rest on a concrete slab. They also like plopping down on the tiled kitchen floor when it's hot.
