View Full Version : Posting a Signature at TCS
Deb25 24th June 2005, 04:12 PM Every member enjoys personalizing their posts with a unique signature. In order to speed forum loading time and avoid excessive scrolling for all members, we have instituted these guidelines for signatures.
Where one or more images is used in a signature, the total signature size can't be larger than 30 Kb (30,000 bytes). This also includes any smilies added to a signature.
The maximum total height of a signature with or without any text above or below it can be no greater than 150 pixels at 72dpi.
If you decide not to use an image, you may have up to 4 lines of standard size text, single-spaced.
In general, if you have an image banner, no other text, ticker, smilie, etc. will be allowed. Exceptions may occur if your image is small enough for the signature not to exceed 150 pixels in height with the text included.
All signatures are subject to the same rules and regulations as any post, and are subject to the same disciplinary actions and editing by moderators if it is deemed necessary, up to and including banning.
Any embedded photos or images posted at TCS may not be larger than 640 pixels wide. Photos or images larger than 640 pixels wide will be deleted by a Moderator and disciplinary action may take place at the discretion of the Moderator. This includes photos and images that are hosted anywhere on the Internet. Photos that are attached to a thread are restricted by the attachment manager settings already in place and cannot be overriden.
You may include a discreet link to another site in your signature. You may not advertise your site in the main body of your post.
Member signatures are subject to review and deletion by the moderating team without advance warning.
Deb25 7th August 2005, 02:41 PM One final note -
If you get a PM regarding your signature, you are not being 'picked on'. As mods and members surf the board and catch large sigs, members are contacted. I receive many, many PMs from members reporting others' signatures. Unless your sig is way outside the guidelines, I will usually give you a chance to repair it. But if I feel as though my request is being ignored, I will delete it.
Am I addressing this to any one member? No. It's a fairly common reaction when I send out a PM.

bogeyandbetty 23rd August 2005, 03:25 AM How do you shrink your siggy? I had a hard time putting it up. Lol
ash_bct 23rd August 2005, 05:35 AM How do you shrink your siggy? I had a hard time putting it up. Lol
I use Photoshop to resize my siggy and pics. I find it the simplest way to do it though I know others here at TCS use different programs.
Your siggy is fine now, visually a good size, and just under the 30 KB limit :)
asterix 24th September 2005, 04:52 PM How do I get a signature?
Deb25 24th September 2005, 05:41 PM You create it on your own, but you don't get the option until you reach 5 posts.
asterix 24th September 2005, 06:46 PM Thanks for the info Deb
JenLuckenbach 2nd October 2005, 01:21 AM testing the size of my siggy.
Catwoman70 13th October 2005, 10:11 PM Ty Deb...and I just have to say GIVE all your babies hugs for me THEY ARE SO CUTE!!!!! I love CATS
KittenKiya 13th October 2005, 10:26 PM Deb, my signature is 33, 300+ bytes. Is this ok or does it need to be made smaller, and how do I do that, please?
icklemiss21 13th October 2005, 11:15 PM I don't know how flexible the rules are on the file size, but in general, I just wanted to say that this is a great tool for compressing file sizes of jpgs:
Image Optimizer (http://xat.com/io/index.html)
This one is 42kb
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y31/icklemiss21/sluggoandpandora.jpg
This one is compressed using Image Optimizer and is less than 20kb
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y31/icklemiss21/sluggoandpandoraLR.jpg
So there is very little image quality lost when compressing :)
hissy 13th October 2005, 11:16 PM We ask that you keep it down to under 30 KB please. There are people that can help you resize oversized signatures- jcat, valanhb, rosiemac, to name a few.
jasonh1234 22nd October 2005, 02:06 PM Am I understanding right that there's no limit on image width? Only 150 height?
Deb25 22nd October 2005, 03:48 PM We haven't set a limit for length because there really hasn't been a need to, so far. I would say about 600 pixels long, though. We don't want signatures that are overly long, either.
BiNkIeAnDbIgGy6 26th November 2005, 12:28 AM You create it on your own, but you don't get the option until you reach 5 posts. I have 5 posts but can't find where to create my signautre on TCS I know how once I get there.....
HopeHacker 26th November 2005, 12:39 AM You don't actually create your signature on TCS. You'd have to create it on your computer or ask someone to make one for you. Then you have to host it at a site like Photobucket, and remote link it to the site, using your User CP.
DawnofSierra 26th November 2005, 12:51 AM Info on the way! :wavey:

I noticed that if you try and print these instructions for easier reference, the page does not print well.
kaluvzmc 7th March 2006, 11:47 PM I have 5 posts but can't find where to create my signautre on TCS I know how once I get there.....
I've made 6 posts and I still don't have the option in my control panel to make a signature. I am looking forward to having one, but I am also wondering how long it takes before they give me the option?
Deb25 8th March 2006, 12:48 AM Minimum of 5 posts and 24 hours in membership.
catsallover 1st April 2006, 06:05 PM If I ever figure out how to make my signature:confused: , do I have to send it to photobucket first, or can I up load straight from my "My Pictures" file? (will check out the link to create a signature, too:) )
AbbysMom 1st April 2006, 06:21 PM You need to upload it to photobucket first. :)
shadowcaat 16th April 2006, 12:47 AM i cant find where you put your signature
AbbysMom 16th April 2006, 12:59 AM You need to be a member for 24 hours and have 5 posts :)
jcat 16th April 2006, 02:30 PM i cant find where you put your signature
You'll be able to put one up tomorrow (Monday). Under "User CP", you'll find an "Edit Signature" option, where you can paste the Photobucket, etc., link.
perezlin 19th April 2006, 06:14 PM I've tried to create a signature. I was successful posting a picture, but to creat a signature....I just don't get it.
Every member enjoys personalizing their posts with a unique signature. In order to speed forum loading time and avoid excessive scrolling for all members, we have instituted these guidelines for signatures.
Total file size no greater than 30 Kb (30,000 bytes). This is a total size, whether you have a single image or multiple images.
Height of signature can be no greater than 150 pixels at 72dpi. This obviously refers to images.
You may have up to 4 lines of standard size text, single-spaced, if all you are using is text.
In general, if you have an image banner, no other text, ticker, smilie, etc. will be allowed. Exceptions may occur if your image is smaller than 150 pixels in height.
You may include a discreet link to another site in your signature. You may not advertise your site in the main body of your post.
Member signatures are subject to review and deletion by the moderating team without advance warning.
AbbysMom 19th April 2006, 06:15 PM You need to have at least 5 posts. :)
laurajackson 20th April 2006, 01:35 PM Thamks was wondering how to get one.
laureen227 20th April 2006, 04:14 PM Thamks was wondering how to get one.when you have enough posts, you can check here (http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49868) for designers.
ginnyp 24th January 2007, 11:09 PM I'm sure my picture is sufficiently small, and have successfully uploaded it to the point where it shows in "Edit Signature," and have clicked "Save Signature," but it doesn't show up on my post(s). I did all of this yesterday, mid-day, and thought it might take overnite to finish "loading," but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Is there something else I'm overlooking?
Thanks,
Ginny
ginnyp 24th January 2007, 11:10 PM Ah-ha . . . it came up on a new message, but not an old message!!!
OK . . . guess I did it right afterall!!!
icklemiss21 24th January 2007, 11:17 PM I see an image in your signature:
http://i133.photobucket.com/albums/q77/ginnyp1/Candy-for-web.jpg
Can you see everyone else's siggies? If not you may have accidentally told it not to show signatures which can be changed in your user CP.
Photobucket was also doing upgrades yesterday so some images wouldn't have showed for a while
ETA: yep, they only show in posts made after the siggy was uploaded to TCS
ginnyp 24th January 2007, 11:35 PM I can see all siggies. Some instructions indicated: "Your new signature will now be appended to every post you’ve got (or indeed, have EVER posted) on The Cat Site!" but I guess this isn't correct.
Anyway, it's showing on new ones!!!
Thanks,
Ginny
icklemiss21 25th January 2007, 12:07 AM That was posted back in 2005, it is quite possible that the software allowed it to append to old posts and some of the upgrades have changed this.
