View Full Version : Finally Introducing Myself

Hello!

Last week (or so) I posted about my cat, Piper, who passed away at the tender age of 4. It was difficult, but thanks to the wonderful messages I received from people I am slowly starting to heal.
I am an avid cat-lover, and finding this site was truly a blessing. All of you here are so passionate, understading, compassionate and knowledgeable.

To tell you a bit about Piper- She was a stunning gray tabby with yellow eyes and a bit of pudge. (she and I are (were) opposed to sit-ups) She was adopted as a kitten from our local pound in Toronto. I originally wanted the cat below her, but as I bent down she put her paw on my head, catching my hair and my heart. For four years we were best friends, roommates, mom and baby. We would lay in bed together; she under the covers and myself contorted into uncomfortable positions as to not disturb her. She sat on my chest if I was sick, on my feet if they were cold and on my head to get me up in the morning. For four years I avoided what I needed to do- which was go back to university, as I had dropped out. For four years she was there as I struggled, deciding what to do with myself and which way to direct my life. I was lost for those years. We went through a lot together, good and bad. She was a constant source of unconditional love, and I wanted a better life for the both of us.
So, awhile ago I received an acceptance letter from a university I had applied to. I was so excited! I was finally going back to finish what I was destined to do! A month later, she collapsed on the kitchen floor and died. I was devestated. Then I realised that maybe she came to this earth to make sure that I fulfilled my dreams, that I didn't get lost and ruin my life. She was my guidance. My soft, furry guide who smelled really good! (She did!)
Once again, this feels really good to write it out, a healthy catharsis.
I am young and I know may cats will grace my life with their presence, but Piper is the one that made life happen for me.
I love you, zoo-zoo, and I cannot wait until we are together again. (By the way, when I was in the bath and you would perch on the side and moan- was it the water or should I hit a treadmill? Ha!)
Thanks, everyone.

Crystal

Welcome Crystal - may your journey be filled with the love of many cats and may their lives be enriched from the experience of being cared for by you.

Glad you came out to say hello. I will look forward to hearing more from you!

Yours from the heart,

Gaye (One who also believes that certain cat companions are with us to assist in our education of life's complexities)

What a touching story! And might I add that you wrote it beautifully! You could be a writer, for sure! I must have missed your earlier thread about the passing of Piper---I am truly sorry for your loss. I, too, believe that you were blessed with Piper so that she could help make your life better. She is in a much better place now, though.

God bless
