View Full Version : My Lost Cat, PLEASE HELP!!!
Cobra 17th May 2004, 06:19 AM About the time I registered on this forum, my cat disappeared. He hasn't come back in a long time. He disappeared yesterday (Saturady morning, May 15). I don't understand where he can be and I am very worried. Very worried. I write this thread Sunday night May 16, and he hasn't even left a trace where he is.
He was raised as a indoor cat, but prefers the outdoors more so he is a indoor/outdoor cat. He has already been neutered (yes he is male) and he has just turned 1 (birthday is May 10).
He never leaves our property, and hangs around the house in the back yard going inside and outside occasionaly. I sometimes never see him but hwne I want to see him I call him and he makes a big meow and comes to me.
What do you think happen to him? He is the type of cat that doesn't run away from strangers, even if you are running at him, he will stand his ground. I hope nobody took advantage of that and stole him. The thing is though when he is outside he always is in the backyard, and rarely goes to the front (which I tell him not to). Where do you think he has gone? He is neutered, so he shouldn't be looking for a woman. PLEASE HELP me figure out what to do. What should I do? Where has he gone you think? Please, I can't stand if anything has happened to him. :bawling:

Anne 17th May 2004, 06:39 AM "Get home soon" vibes going out to your kitty!
Moving this to the cat care forum.
DawnofSierra 17th May 2004, 07:23 AM I so hope your kitty comes home soon safe and sound! Please keep us posted!
Scott77777 17th May 2004, 07:33 AM He could just be wandering, but make sure you check with the local shelter or "cat" groups as well.
A good samaritan might pick him up, thinking he's a stray. If he's friendly, that's not likely, but you never know.
With many of these situations, it seems like the cat eventually turns up, but to be on the safe side, it's always good to share as much information as you can with the local shelter, neighbors, and anyone you know that might come across the cat.
Sweets 17th May 2004, 02:59 PM Sending some "time to come home kitty" vibes. You would be amazed at some of the magic this forum has done! :clap2:
Cobra 17th May 2004, 05:04 PM The shelter closest to my place is more than 15-20 miles away (in a different city), can he really possible be so far away?
Also, he had a red collar with two golden bells, would they consider a stray? He has no identification tags though.
Scott77777 17th May 2004, 05:18 PM Our shelter is also 15 miles away, but we have a few neighbors that will trap stray cats and take them to the shelter. They're "supposed" to release them if they have a collar, but who knows? The only way you know for sure is if you call them or visit them.
I'm not trying to make you nervous, but please don't assume that the cat can't end up at the shelter. There's a set amount of time that a shelter will hold an animal, so it's important that you cover all of the bases and make sure they know you can't find your cat and that they should call you.
Personally, it hasn't been long - but I would be as thorough as possible. I would try to call the various groups that deal with animals (including the shelter) and just let them know you're looking. Also, it seems that with missing people - the sooner you get the word out, the better. I assume the same goes for animals.
Sharing information is always a good thing!
Good luck!
Scott77777 17th May 2004, 05:24 PM Also, as Hissy's link mentions, you should put out a big plate of food (tuna, or something else smelly) and a litter pan.
If you leave the food overnight you'll probably get raccoons, but during the day might attract your cat back to your house if he's just wandering.
jeeperscat 17th May 2004, 05:27 PM I hope your kitty comes home soon ((((HUGS))))

Cobra 18th May 2004, 03:50 AM I went to the shelter and there was no luck. :bawling: I went to my nearest neighbors, and there was no luck. :bawling: What should I do???! He is no where around. He has disappeared without a trace. His name is Rocky, and he is the most freindly loving cat around. I was about to get a new kitten from the shelter for him to have fun with, but now he is gone! Why did this have to happen to me?
I really hope he isn't road kill or worse. Or got in a fight with a bigger cat. I maybe a guy, but I very much feel like crying.

DawnofSierra 18th May 2004, 04:07 AM You must be so upset worrying about where your baby is. :bawling: I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. :( I sure do hope Rocky comes home soon! We're always here as a shoulder to cry on. :hugs: Please keep us posted!
Lorie D. 18th May 2004, 10:54 AM One thing you can do is check the lost and found ads in the classified section of your local paper daily. It's always possible that someone has taken Rocky in and is using the lost and founds to try to locate the owner. You could also put an ad in that section of the paper yourself.
Ilovecats 18th May 2004, 08:20 PM I also lost a dear baby ,Tigger. He was my childhood friend. I had him sense kindergarden! :bawling: I very much miss him. he was my best friend! He waited 7 hours by the door while I was at school my mom said. But enough about me! I'm sure you'll find him! Put up posters, ask around and pray. we will pray for you too! (((((((COME HOME ROCKY VIBES))))))
shaparis 19th May 2004, 12:13 PM I hope Rocky comes home real soon!
last year our family cat, Ashes who lives on Cape Cod with my mom disappeared. We all thought for certain a fox or some other wild animal got a hold of her, and after about a week she just came home. They have no idea where she was, why she was gone so long but she came back fine, not a scratch on her...so I believe Rocky will come home!

linda_of_pgff 19th May 2004, 02:46 PM Cobra,
Others have given you good advice on what TO do, now I'm going to offer one point about what NOT to do: do NOT give up. Often, people stop looking for their cats JUST when the cat has begun to feel curious/safe enough to venture from a hiding spot it's found outside. It's a GOOD possibility your Randy is right near home, somewhere that you can't or don't know to look. I don't know about you, but I've had cats who can be sitting in plain sight in a room (well, relatively out in the open) and I'v e missed them; and I've had cats who were EXPERT at finding the tiniest, most out-of-the-way hiding places (and I ONLY have indoor cats!!)
What is the name of that nearest shelter, if you feel comfortable posting it? Did you ask them if they could keep a description or photo of Rocky on file? If not, please GO THERE daily. There is no way for you to know if someone might take Rocky in, keep him for a few days, and then turn him in, or if someone might come across him today or tomorrow; it's VERY important, with most shelters, for you to persist in checking for him. (Shelter staff are very busy, and can't always try to track down every owner, particularly of cats.)
Did Rocky have a tattoo or a microchip? I'm hoping that his collar was a "breakaway" style, so that might not stay on him long enough to serve as identification. (I think that in some cases, a cat outside will get its collar caught and will pull out of the collar, rather than be hanged by it. But if the only identification the cat has is on that collar, well, this puts it in a different sort of danger.)
Sending "reuniting" vibes to you and Rocky.
Linda

I totally agree. My Mum's cat was missing for months and about 2 weeks ago he was spotted not far from the house, last Sunday they found him and brought him home. If they had stopped keeping an eye out they would have missed him.
Cobra 19th May 2004, 05:45 PM It is Wed. May 19 and my cat has been gone for 4 days. The thing is, I am afraid he has also wandered too far and has no food. What is he going to eat? Well, he has ate a few birds around our house, but it is rare he does. We live in a city village, so there is not much wild life for him to hunt, I really hope he can scavenge for food, do you think he can find food all alone?
And at the shelter I did file him as a missing cat. I going to check tomorrow whether he is there. I really hoping he is there. I checked in the most local newspaper, but he is not there. :( I also hope he didn't get kidnapped. He is the type of cat that will aproach anyone, so I hope no one will take advantage and kidnap him unless they are going to return them to the shelter.
squirtle 19th May 2004, 06:05 PM Cobra- You must be heartbroken, I am so sorry :( I was really hoping you would have found your baby by now. I am sorry that I don't really have much advice to offer, but wanted to know I was still praying for Rocky. I am sure a lot of others are also. Please don't give up :heart3:
FeralWhisperer 19th May 2004, 06:07 PM Cobra my heart goes out to you.

Judging by the stories I've read of cats being recovered months after being found missing, it's pretty likely that he can find enough at least to survive on (he might be skinnier when you find him tho). Water is actually more important than food is -- a cat can cope with missing a few meals, but if it has NO access to fresh water, then that's a difficult situation, though cats descend from desert animals and don't need LOTS of water.
I really think you should focus on keeping some familiar-scented things out around the house; look in storm drains, bushes, up trees, ask the paperboy and mail person and young kids around your own home. Experts say MOST cats don't go very far, they just find a hiding place and hunker down for a while.
I'm so very sorry that you're having to deal with such distress.

Cobra 21st May 2004, 04:58 PM Behind my house on the right side there is a a large shed that is being constructed, and is almost completed. Some would say he is probably hiding in a dark damp place, so I am thinking he might be there.
I would wonder though why he wouldn't meow really loudly if he did get stuck in that dark shed, and why none of the workers or the house owner never saw him in the backyard.
Also, how would he be able to survive 6 days in that shed without food or water? Can he possibly be in that shed? Should I go ask and look in it?

YES!!!!! Get permission to look inside that shed ASAP! I do think it's possible for your cat to survive 6 days without food or water.
FeralWhisperer 21st May 2004, 06:03 PM YES!! YES!! if they say no the BEG, DEMAND do what you have to. Bring smell food (tuna, sardines), water and something that smell like you house (maybe a blanket. Good Luck.
squirtle 21st May 2004, 06:08 PM Yes! Absolutely! If it were me I would just have gone and looked without permission  (But it's probably better to handle it the right way) go look for your kitty if you have any hope that it's hiding in that shed , let us know!
DawnofSierra 21st May 2004, 06:13 PM PLEASE, Please go look!! Let us know as soon as you find out something!
FeralWhisperer 21st May 2004, 06:17 PM Bring a flashlight, it maybe to dark to see him but his eyes will reflect the light.

Bad news :( . Well, apparently since the shed is new it was basicly a flat room with nothing in it. In face, they installed the roof today.
The thing is, I'm sure he would of meowed really loudly if he was stuck ANYWHERE around where I lived and I would would of heard him. In their backyard with the new shed, had a lot of junk on where the cat might be, however if the cat was truly under all that debre, I am sure he would of meowed really loud.
I'm really worried very badly now. It is going to be one week (7days) since he disappeared. And don't know how much longer he can survive without food or water.
I don't understand why he would of just disappeared without a trace . He has never gone anywhere outside our property ever, except maybe the next door neightbors through the backyard fence. On top of that he is nuetered. WHY DID YOU LEAVE ME ROCKY??? :(
:bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:
FeralWhisperer 22nd May 2004, 05:04 AM I'm so sad I really hoped you would find your baby in that shed. :( :(
DawnofSierra 22nd May 2004, 05:38 AM I'm very sorry, you must be so disappointed. :( I had so hoped Rocky would be in that shed today. Please keep us posted. :hugs:
TNR1 22nd May 2004, 05:45 AM Cobra..I don't share this often as it hurts just too much..but when I was younger..I had a cat...Buttons. He was my pride and joy and I loved him sooooo much..when I was 15 we moved from Washington State to New Jersey. Buttons had always been an indoor/outdoor cat, so I saw no issue in letting him out when we got to New Jersey..problem was..he never came home. We searched and searched for weeks and couldn't find him. I still don't understand where he went....was he confused and trying to get back to Washington State? Did he decide to search out his turf and get lost? I will never know...so I understand your sadness and frustration. I do hope in your case that Rocky comes home and I am sending out "come home Rocky" prayers.
Katie
Cobra 24th May 2004, 04:32 PM He still hasn't returned, but I haven't given up all hope yet. I have put missing fliers all over my village area. I hope someone will find him. Please keep Rocky in your prayers. Thanks.
squirtle 24th May 2004, 04:41 PM Cobra, I was thinking about you and Rocky. I am still praying that your sweet boy will make it home. I am glad that you haven't given up. Have you gone around and knocked on peoples doors asking them if they have seen your boy? Ask the neighborhood kids to look everywhere, tell them you'll pay whoever find him? I am sure you have done everything, I am just searching for more ideas at this point. :( I am so sorry Cobra. I can only imagine how hard this is. Please know that we are all here for you :hugs:
DawnofSierra 25th May 2004, 02:41 AM Cobra, you and Rocky remain in my thoughts and prayers. :hugs: I'm sorry you're having to go through this. I pray he will return home to you.
