I have a 6 year old mixed breed cat named Uncle Louie. I have had him since he was a kitten. He has always been lazy with his grooming habits.....he won't wash himself except for his paws and his behind area. He loves to be brushed with a slicker brush. He always has an oiley look to his fur that gets on my nerves. I even took him to a pet groomer a month ago for a bath figuring if he started out fresh...maybe he would change his ways and keep himself cleaner. The women that was unfortunate enough to wash him said he was like a tazmanian devil in the wash tub swinging in all directions...LOL...The bath made no difference at all to him, he continues to be a slob about himself. I have wet him with wash cloths figuring he would wash off the water on his fur....NO Way  he would just walk around wet all day until he air dried. Anyone have any suggestions...or do I just write him off as being a slob?

Sounds like your kitty is a long haired cat. If so it is impossible for him to wash himself completely. The oilyness is most likely because he is a boy and they tend to have a higher oil content. You can sprinkle him with corn strarch to help absorb the oil when you brush him. You can also buy a dry/foam bath for cats you rub in and towel off.

Thanks for the quick reply...Uncle Louie is kinda a medium longhair cat. I figured that his oily fur was from me petting, and holding him so much. He is a very affectionate cat. I never heard of corn starch on a cats fur. Does it really work?

I've used a mixture of talc powder and corn starch on Peaches in between baths. It works very well! Makes her look all fluffy and beautiful! I guess it seperates and that's what makes the hair fluff out.
