View Full Version : Important question on measurements
3kittys 24th June 2003, 11:05 PM I just got my large dog advantage from my vet. Now, please don't think I'm stupid but I have never been good at measurments okay?
I need to get 1mL and .4mL from this tube of 4mL. I have a syringe thing and it is in mL's. I know for the 1mL that would be to the 1 mark but what would the .4mL be?
Can anybody help me here?
Thanks,
Cathy
Sandie 24th June 2003, 11:22 PM I don't know what syringe you have, or if it's marked, but .4 would be a quarter of the 1ml.
3kittys 24th June 2003, 11:31 PM Okay, so is mL and ml the same thing? The syringe I have is a oral one that I had for my daughter. It starts at the top with one bigger line and then 4 little lines before your get to the #1 mark. (does that make any sence?) My needles do not twist off my syringes I have for my cat.

DragonLady 25th June 2003, 12:50 AM Actually .4 is 2/5th not a quarter :) I was told by a breeder friens that the easiest way to measure it is to just apply 1 drop per 1 pound of cat.
3kittys 25th June 2003, 01:14 AM Mine won't "drop" out of the syringe thing I have so I can't do the drops. Wouldn't .5 be half of 1 so therefore .4 is just shy of .5 right?
Cathy
3kittys 25th June 2003, 01:16 AM Okay, mine does do "drops", sorry. Are you absolutely sure it's 1 drop per pound? I don't know exactly how much she weighs but I know it's not over 9lbs. So, would I be safe to just do the maximum which is 9lbs?
Cathy
Sandie 25th June 2003, 02:14 AM Sorry, should have explained it "looking at the syringe"
If you are giving it to them in a tuberculin syrine, it's about a quarter of the syringe.
If you ARE using the tuberculin syringe, .4 would be at the .4cc mark. Then the .8 would be at the .8cc.
malynn 25th June 2003, 02:35 AM Hi, on the buying large dose advantage post, on the 2nd page, about the 9th post, Shell explains the markings on the syringes, if that will help you.
3kittys 25th June 2003, 02:54 AM Actually my syringe is in mL, not cc, but aren't they the same?
Also, would .5mL be half of 1mL? It has to be because I was playing with what was left in the cup I squirted some advantage into. I pulled up what looked to be 1/2 of the 1mL and "dropped" out 9 drops and it was empty. So 1 drop per 1 pound of cat would equal the 9 drops.
Man, I sure did not realize how confusing this could be. I really appreciate all of you helping me, just to save some money:rolleyes:
Cathy
malynn 25th June 2003, 03:01 AM yeah they are the same, or nearly the same from what I understand.
malynn 25th June 2003, 02:05 PM Hey 3kittys, did everything go o.k. with the Advantage application?
3kittys 25th June 2003, 02:22 PM Hey Malynn, thanks for asking. I did my dog with no problem because his was the 1mL, but I haven't done the cat's yet. I got pre-occupied last night and could not work on it anymore and I want to be sure on the drop thing also (about the 1 drop per 1 pound).
