My vet suggested Revolution for my boy to protect against feline heartworm, and I've given him his monthly dosage twice now, but I don't know whether I'm doing it properly.

The vet (and the directions) say to part the hair on the neck and administer the stuff to the skin there. I wish now that I had asked my vet to demonstrate because my boy has very soft, short, THICK hair. No matter how closely I try to part it, I really don't expose skin because his short hairs just fill in. I've been putting it as close to the skin as I can, but it isn't directly on the skin.

Advice? I hate to bring him into the vet to ask them to show me how to get to his skin.

Play with your cat's fur more often, you'll get better at parting it. Also, directions say neck but many cats can actually reach around that far. I apply it a little higher, more at the base of the skull. The fur is usually a bit thinner on cats there. :)

No, I said "neck," but it's actually at the base of the skull where I'm applying it. And I DO play with his hair a lot, especially since the first month when I realized how difficult it was to find 'skin.' I've been searching for it ever since without success.

My vet said that it is fine the way you describe!

The one thing to be sure to do is to hold the tube as close to the "skin" as possible and not lift it at all until the tube is empty. It's tempting to lift it up to check how much is left or how it is being applied on the skin, but I find the liquid is applied much better when you don't move the tube.
