Here are the lyrics to the new song called "Have You Forgotten?". It's causing a bit of a stirr around the nation. I thought you all might enjoy reading the lyrics.

"HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN"
by Darryl Worley and Wynn Varble

I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down.
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend

Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it every day
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fighting for

Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

That one ranks up there, with Alan Jackson's "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)?"

What about Toby Keith's "The Angry American"? I love all three of those songs, but I'm partial to Toby's. There is just something about him.;)

I LOVE Toby's "Angry American"! This one too. Alan Jackson's was good, but it was played so much it's lost much of the impact it had when it was first released.

Since we're talking country music, might I ask your opinions on the Dixie Chicks thing? I know my country station that I listen to at work hasn't played them since their statements about Bush. I have to say, any other genre of music and it might have blown over, but country fans are notorious zealous about patriotism.

Last summer, Toby Keith was bumped from an Independence Day telecast, because of his lyrics and Charlie Daniels backed out of show, because he was asked to changed his lyrics.

Since when is a patriotic song out of line, on the 4th of July?

I'm not into country music. My husband is very musical - has three guitars and a piano, so "canned music" plays almost no role in our household. As someone from the Northeast, I find that I am very prejudiced against "country and western", which is not good. I want to be very open, but I'd rather hear Springsteen, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and the Eagles (yes, that's a sign of age!). I am not familiar with any "Dixie Chics'" songs, but I think that the right to free speech should also extend to Natalie Maines. If you object to somebody's music, fine, but be aware that owners of radio staions, record companies, etc, have their own political views, and don't blindly follow thier suggestions.

Last week, Lee Greenwood did a free concert, at our Air Force base. It was just for AF personnel and their families. I though that was nice of him.

Even though his song "Proud to be an American" is an older song, it really has become quite popular the past couple of years. It still gives me chills to hear it!

I lean toward country music and oldies rock 'n roll. I can understand the lyrics, they aren't filthy and it doesn't give me a headache.

Mark plays in a band and I've never heard him because they do some real head-banger stuff. Five minutes of that and I've got a migraine.

I really think the thing with the Dixie Chicks has gotten out of hand. I feel that for a country that is very proud of it's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, that some people (not all) can be very intolerant. Natalie exercised her right of free speech and she has been nailed to the wall. The groups CDs have been run over by bulldozers and they have been banned from some sountry stations. I feel that this is very sad and it really doesn't encourage people to develop and speak their own opinions!

I'm a little torn on the Dixie thing.

There are consequences to our actions, especially if you're a big star who makes your $$$ off of public demand. Natalie Maines certianly has the right to say anything she wants to. And the flip side of that is the public has the right to respond to her words anyway they want to, be it outrage or support. I just see it as everyone involved exercising their freedom of speech in their own way. Again, when you're a celebrity and people don't like what you say, they often respond by not supporting your art, be it music, film, books, whatever.

Country radio has a zealously patriotic audience and the fall out probably wouldn't have been so severe if the DC were a pop, modern rock or rhythmic act.

This will all blow over and some other idiot will open their mouth and spout off something that irritates the majority. I tend to think that most people don't really care what celebs think of hot button issues, especially politics, because 9 times out of 10 the celebrity can't even begin to relate to the average persons life. They are so sheltered and pampered that they have no point of reference to what it's like to live like the average joe.

So Natalie can certainly hold the opinion that she's ashamed of our president, but to vocalize that to thousands (not even in her own country) probably wasn't wise. But she has that right and I certianly don't begrudge her that, but I don't feel sorry for her that alot of people then used their freedom of speech to be so vocal in thier disagreement. I feel sorry for the other 2 girls in the group who are guilty by association.

I hold a lot of opinions and some of them I'm sure would be considered unpopular. I just make sure that I'm willing to deal with whatever comes with expressing them. Luckily I don't have to make my living off of public favor.

Dito. I listen to different genres, but deffinitely like country music the best. It isn't dirty or too noisy (aka lots of yelling and loud background noise) and usually has good things to say. I'm torn on the dixie chicks thing. I may not agree with their politics, but I love their music. I'll still be listening to it because I think they are talented, I mean they haven't committed any crimes or anything, just have a differing point of view.
