View Full Version : Looking for a kitty . . .
AuroraViva 14th March 2003, 02:33 AM Hello, everyone. I am looking for any Burmese, Russian Blue, Tonkinese, Bombay, or Egyptian Mau breeders in the Atlanta, GA area. (Yes, I know it's a long list.) I am moving in May to an apartment that allows pets, and I have been wanting a cat FOREVER, so now I can finally get one.
I am trying to find the breed that is right for me. The only problem is, they all seem right for me! For right now, I only want one, though. (Hopefully, later, I'll have more . . . ) Basically, I am looking for a short-haired cat that will love lots and lots of attention and will be a "lap cat." I'm engaged, so it's very possible that I'll have other pets or children within the cat's lifetime, so I need a breed that is good with both.
From all the research I've done, it looks like all of the breeds I mentioned fulfill the basic criteria. So, now I just need to go meet some kitties! Any help to make my search easier would be very much appreciated. I would be willing to drive a little ways, too, in case anyone knows of a breeder who isn't in Atlanta, but is still relatively close. Thanks a bunch y'all!!

i think it helps to email to CFA to seek help. i did it today, and am waiting for them to match me with some breeders around my area.

I think the best way to find a breeder is to go to a cat show. That way you can see the breeds "in person" :tounge2: AND you can meet the breeders themselves.
You'd want to meet the breeders before you buy anyway, and this way you can check out several breeders at once. Talk with them directly about the breed (the temperament — good with other cats or kids at a later date — any health problems with the breed); the cattery — how the kitties are raised (in cages or underfoot), the health of siblings, parents, etc. Also, please don't buy from a newspaper. Only buy from a breeder who you've heard good things about. And don't buy straight from the show without knowing the background of the cattery. I know someone who got a kitty who had a host of medical problems because she bought the kitty at the spur of the moment at a cat show.
Lucky you, there is a show May 3-4 in Atlanta listed at the CFA (http://www.cfainc.org/exhibitors/show-schedule.html) show schedule:
May 03-04(P). GA, ATLANTA: Rebel Rousers Cat Club.
And one in Savannah:
May 31-01(L). GA, SAVANNAH: Alumni Arena, Armstrong-Atlantic University, 11935 Abercorn Street. Coastal Empire Cat Club. 4
Cat shows are sooo much fun. Me and hubby go to shows even though we are not looking to get any more cats. So many beautiful furbabies. Neat products to buy too.
Have fun finding just the right one!
krazy kat2 4th April 2003, 05:49 PM I don't know that this is one of them but there are several VERY shady breeders in the Augusta, GA area. If you decide to check in to that one, be very careful.
