you know what I wondered? are they going to direct deposit those rebate checks into the accounts of those people that opted for direct deposit for their tax refunds (if they had one)? I bet that would save a boatload of money :rolleyes:

Right, my parents got one and basically it said that if you don't file your taxes by April 15 then that extra rebate signed into law is not available for you. So if you request an extension or miss the tax date, then your out of luck.

I work for a federal contract, and this year for the first time ever, they decided to mail out annual statements of peoples account whether they wanted them mailed or not. The reason behind this? The "wanted to see how many people need to update their address". :rolleyes: So, they are sending out statements with full name, ssn, date of birth, acct balance, acct number, beneficiaries names to over 3 million people...and they already know around 100,000 address aren't correct. Yeah, THAT'S real safe.

Have them contact me at work and I'll run it through the National Change of Address (NCOA) for them first. $5 per thousand names with a 48-hour turnaround can save them millions of dollars, not to mention trees.

Oh, I wish I could, but but the system is set up so stupidly (is that a word??), we can't change their address in the system if they are still employed by the government...we need an update from the agency. And, half the time the people in HR or personnel don't know how to do that and won't call to talk to tech support to find out how. It's the most assinine system ever. I'm sometimes really glad I am just a contracted worker because if I actually had to count on a federal agency to do something for me, I think I would tear my hair out! (no offense to any government workers here).
