Wilhelma ... announced Thursday that it had entered Germany's polar bear breeding craze with a cuddly cub of its own. A cub named Wilbär -- a hybrid of the zoo's name and the German word for "bear" -- was born at the zoo in December but kept a secret from the press until this week.

What kind of an idiot would steal a penguin?
I wouldn't be suprised if they try to get a randsome for the poor little thing.
Let's hope they come to their senses and just return her.
As for that baby polar bear...that's just about the cutest little critter I've ever seen.

I thought the penguin being stolen was odd, too, but wonder if the thief was a fox. The Wilhelma (zoo/botanical garden) is surrounded by a huge public park with lots of foxes, and they've been known to "break in" and eat flamingos in particular. I work in center city, and it's not that unusual to see a fox sauntering down a busy street in broad daylight.
I'm going to have to go and see Wilbär soon.
