I am so very excited! I just came back from PetSmart with my new Cat It fountain. I can't wait to go home from work to set it up - well, after reading the directions, I may wait till tomorrow night, since I work late tonight. I hope the kids like their new fountain. Also picked up 4 gallons of Poland Spring water which was on sale at my Stop and Shop for 79 cents a gallon! :clap:
Next on the list will be soft paws - pink for Sophie and Mollie and blue for the brat! Putting those things on by myself should be very interesting! :lol3:

Well, I put it together last night - it really was simple. That Cosmo is such a nut. :lol3: I washed the basin and filter and put it on the floor while I was washing the water container. I turned around and he had all ready pulled the filter out and was batting it around! As soon as I put the water in and plugged the fountain in, he had his feet in the water! He spent about 45 minutes playing with the water - and drinking it! Mollie came over and immediately started eating (from the attached bowl) Sophie wouldn't come in to the kitchen all night! :lol3:
I haven't seen either Sophie or Mollie drink from it, but Sophie, at least managed to make it into the kitchen for breakfast.
I really hope that they will all start drinking from it. I left a bowl of water out, but tonight I am going to move it closer to the fountain - I hope that will get Sophie to start drinking from it. I think that it is the noise that is making her nervous.

My 2 cats wouldn't drink from theirs for about 2 weeks. They would play in it, and stare at it for hours! It was so funny. Now, they drink out of it all the time. I, too, think it's the noise. They'll get used to it.

Congrats! :) I have a catit which I love but it breaks about every five months. Very very frustrating but the cats love it too so its worth it. I dont attach the food bowl because I didnt want them getting water in the food, I just set it a foot or so away from the water. I also use distilled water (pain to clean if it gets all mineraly from regular water) 79 cents a gallon is a great deal! I get my water at walmart and its right around that price.

I just got this for my UTI-prone cat and she LOVES it. She was a bit afraid at first but I held her while I dipped my finger in the water to show her what it was. After petting and reassuring her for a bit, she walked around to the backside of the dome and tried to smell it. Well, of course she quickly found out that it's not for smelling and started drinking from it. I watched her lick all over the dome for almost 10 full minutes. She was down to peeing only once per day but I noticed she peed a second time in the middle of the night. Yea!!! :clap:

I'm needing to refill my mid-week now as well - I can't tell if they are drinking more or if the CatIt is humidifying my house. :lol3:

There certainly are lots and larger clumps in the litter since we started using a fountain though, so I'm guessing it's only partially humidifying the house and the cats are really drinking the rest. :)

Does anyone know if after the reservoir fills if you can fill the dome up again for additional water? I was going to try this later but thought I'd ask first in case someone tried it and it didn't work out well. :)

I tried that other brand (the name escapes me at the moment) and I hated the noise from it. Two of the kits love to drink from the top of the PetMate "ramp" so I'm thinking they might really like the Cat-It but I don't want to get one of it is noisy.

We've had all 3. I think the Cat It and Petmate ones are about the same in noise. We have the Drinkwell now, which is noisier but all of my cats like it. Stimpy didn't like the Petmate and CatIt fountains. I'm thinking of getting the extra reservoir for our Drinkwell because I'm topping it off so much.

They're pretty much the same, almost silent. I do find the cat-it needs to be kept pretty full or will make some noise, so I top up the bowl area each day.

The only time our Cat-It makes noise is when it needs to be refilled. :)

i've had all 3 - catit, drinkwell, & freshflow... the drinkwell is the newest & Pixel really likes it! the others seem to prefer the freshflow.
i didn't care for the catit - seemed harder to clean than the other 2.

I pour one bottle of the water directly into the reservoir (or enough to fill it) then fill the dome so that when I put the dome on there is still plenty of water in it.

The only time our Cat-It makes noise is when it needs to be refilled. :)

Same here - ours makes no noise until the water level gets low.

The Cat-It is just as easy to clean as any other fountain. As I said in another thread a couple weeks ago, I just empty the reservoir and clean it every Saturday. About once per month I fill the reservoir with plain white vinegar, let it sit for about 30 minutes and that cleans all the lime residue away and it's sparkling clean again.

I threw out a PetMate because the motor went and now I think I may have been hasty and that the motor just needed a good soak in vinegar. When we cleaned the CatIt a couple weeks ago we put the motor in vinegar and I was amazed at how much "gunk" was in it.

I clean mine every Saturday and I can feel it is getting a touch "slimy". By doing it weekly, it makes cleaning it up very easy. I also rinse the filter under running water to clean it as well. I do the vinegar treatment about once per month to get rid of the lime residues. Like anything else, regular cleaning and maintenance prevents the need for a heavy duty cleaning job.

I find I need to refill it during the week since winter and the central heating kicked in. It only seems to need refilling once per week in the summer so I'm assuming there is some humidifying action going on.

I have a Drinkwell, but I cleaned the other ones we used to have the same way.

Hot soapy water. I let it soak for a while. Then I clean with a baby bottle brush (I have the Munchkin brand one that is actually 2 brushes in one). Then I rinse it.

If mine is really dirty, I add bleach or vinegar to the hot soapy water. That's usually if I was unable to do a weekly cleaning and it's gone closer to 2 weeks.:nausea:

With the CatIt, everything is pretty much exposed so I just use a clean sponge and hot water to clean it - I don't use soap because this is something the kitties will be licking and I honestly don't seem to need to in order to get it clean. I also use an old toothbrush kept just for the fountain to get into any little crevices. If it is cleaned every week there shouldn't be any problem keeping it clean. As I said, you will get a build-up of mineral residue but just soaking with vinegar about once per month should take care of that. I also use the toothbrush after I've let the vinegar set to just ensure I got all the residue, rinse thoroughly and refill.

i use the food surface sanitizer (http://www.homesolutionsstore.com/cgi-bin/item/RB78917)on mine. also, i don't use the filters because i add lysine to the water, & i don't want it filtered out.

I don't use filters. I use water from our Pur Pitcher in the cats' fountain.

They'll both use the one. Our two cats both use just the one.

We have the Cat-It at home, I change the filter about once every two weeks. But that's simply because our cat loves to play with her dry food, throwing it on the floor and tossing it around before eating it, so many times food gets caught in the filter, which wears out the filter faster than usual. I also clean the fountain about twice a week for the same reason.

She absolutely loves the fountain though, sometimes she'll stare at the dome for minutes, just watching the water flow.

Sometimes she'll play around a bit too much, and while petting her I'll notice that her paws and belly are all wet (from the water).

I noticed my cat doing this too. Hers is on my window seat area across from my bed, so she just lays on the bed and stares at it forever. It must be soothing. :D
