I live in Three Rivers Michigan, about 15 minutes south of Kalamazoo. I'm looking for a bengal breeder near my home. Does anyone know of one that might be close by. I've checked the K-Zoo paper frequently and have found nothing. I'm also not far from Middlebury Indiana, about 30 minutes away so one in this area would be ok too.

thanks for your help.

Hello Kyttin

I am in PA so I am to far for you. Some breeders will ship if you wish to do this. You can look at the TICA site and see if there are breeders in your area. Also TIBCS and TIBBA are Bengal clubs. I know they list by state so this might help.

TICA www.tica.org
TIBCS www.bengalcat.com
TIBBA www.tibba.8k.com

I've always been uneasy about having a kitten shipped to me. Is this safe for the cat. Could it cause harmful effects or be scary for the cat?

I was also wondering what an SBT is. I know what an F1 and so on is but have no clue about and SBT.

Thanks for the site info. I checked them out and they were very informative. I did not find a breeder close to me though :uuh:Oh well I'll keep looking.

Again, thanx for your help. :rainbow:

Hello
I just had my F3 shipped to me last Friday and she is pregnant. She was shipped from Illinois to Pittsburgh. This is about a 4 hour flight. It is just fine to have them shipped as long as you can go with Delta Dash. This is a counter to counter shipping. The cat goes from one person to the person how is receiving it.

SBT Stands for Stud Book Tradition. A term designated by TICA, The International Cat Association. SBT indicates that the Bengal is pedigreed (yes an oxymoron because a Bengal is a hybrid) and must be at least 4 generations removed from the Asian Leopard Cat. To be an SBT there must only be Bengal to Bengal breeding. No longer does the Bengal standard allow outcrosses.

So SBT means in plain english the cat is four generations or higher.

The breeder I deal with is Cazpurr Bengals she is in Illinois I think her sister is in Michigan. Her sister is just starting to breed Bengals and they are doing a sister cattery so they use the same name for the cattery. Linda Johnson is the owner and she is very nice I would contact her let her know I sent you. See if she can help you out. her site is www.cazpurrbengals.com

Ok that brings me to another question. Do F2 and 3's make good pets?
I've heard that some f2 and 3 males are sterile and are sometimes sold as pets. Is this true and if so do they command a higher price being that they are a hybrid? Do you need a lisence to own one?
I'm trying to learn all I can about them. Someday I would like to possibly breed them but want to make sure I have all my facts right and that it would be the breed for me and that I was well informed. I used to breed himalayans and enjoyed it greatly. I wasn't in it for the money and spent more than I made but I really loved it. So I do have experience in breeding but for some reason the bengal seems different. To have a good breeding program would I need an F2 or 3? Or can I just breed bengal to bemgal? I know that you need to introduce new lines to keep the gene pool from getting sour. I would want to breed for the best quality and keep my cats in the best standards. I'm not interested in how many kittens I can sell I just am really drawn to the breed but have never owned one and would want to do so before starting to breed.

I know, I have a lot of questions. I'll try to keep it shorter next time.

Thanx for the site, I'll check it out.

Ok that is a lot. But I am very happy to help.:)

First F2 and F3 can be good pets but it depends on the owner. Some F2 and F3 will not use the litter box. They may also eat things they should not and get into every thing. They tend to be very loving my F3 is the most loving cat I have ever owned. All F1, F2, and F3 males are non fertile. This is why they are sold as pets. For breeding you would want and F1, F2, or F3 female. You DO NOT have to have a foundation cat to have a good breeding program. SBT Bengals are just fine especially if you want to produce for show quality. This is the main reason I bought an F3 because her kittens can be shown at the shows. The reason breeders own foundation cat (F1, F2, F3) is so introduce type into there program. And by type I mean the look that resembles the Asian Leopard cat.

Price of foundation cats this is a hard one. I do not know exactly why they are so high priced other than that to purchase an Asian Leopard Cat can cost a lot of money. F1's are about $3000, F2's are around $2500-$2000, and an F3 I am not sure of. I got my girl very cheep. She was $500 and a pick kitten back to the breeder. My guess is that they would cost $1500-$2000.

You do not need a license to own one in Michigan that I know of. You would have to check with your township or city. You may even want to check with the state. As far as I know the only place you can NOT own Bengals is in Georgia. I do believe there is some law in Connecticut about shipping Bengals in and out. Also there is a new law in South Carolina about breeding Bengals. I am not sure as to how the law is exactly worded. There is a list on yahoo called Bengal L that I belong too. I do not post just read. You may want to join. Also there are lists for TIBBA and TIBCS but you need to be a member of TIBBA to join there list. I think you can join TIBCS and not be a member. I hope I have not forgotten anything.

Wow thanx for the info, that really helped. I know you can own Bengals in michigan but I'm not sure about a foundation cat because of the fact that it is a hybrid cross and in michigan considered exotic animal. Michigan is making it very hard to own extoic cats so I don't know if this would apply to an F1, F2, or F3. I just wondered about if the males made good pets since they are sold as pets. It doesn't matter to me that they can't breed I would have it neutered anyway. I was just interested in giving one a good home. If I did that thought I think I would want an F3. I've heard that F3's make the best pets since they have the most domestic blood in them. I don't know that I could spend that much money on one thought. I would definitely have to make my top price $500.00. I would be willing to spend a little more if I started a breeding program. Right now I'm more looking for a good pet but it's good to know what I would be getting myself into if I did decide to breed. I would want to breed for show quality and really can't afford to pay that much for a good cat right now. I think I would stick with bengal to bengal anyhow but wow even a top bengal commends a pretty high price.

I checked out your site last night and you have such beautiful cats!! I also went to the one you recomended and liked it as well.

I really appreciate your help. Thank you. I've learned a lot.

Your welcome! I am glad to help.:) Thank you I am glad you liked my site I did it myself.

Bengals do cost a lot. Pets are not to bad if you find the right breeder. Some breeders charge a lot for pet kittens. You know you could always get a nice retired Bengals for the price of the spay or neuter. Jut to give you an idea of what you may be looking at for breeders. I paid $705 for my marble Alexis, $1,200 for Lady Luck, and $2,500 for my stud Attar. The breeder I bought my girls from is very good about pricing her pet Bengals. Last litter she had some for $350. It also depends on the line the come from too. My Lady Bug (F3) her line will cost more then some of my other cats. But if I find the right person I would be willing to lover the price.

I was shocked to see how much some of the Bengals sell for when I started buying my breeding stock. Breeders always say they breed for quality but when you look at what they charge you wonder. LOL

Well Good luck. You can email me privately if you ever have questions. I know you will find a nice pet Bengal to love you and for you to lower.

I could've gotten an F3 (might have been an F2, cant remember, but she was a foundation cat) for $700, but chose not to. Maybe someday when we have a bigger house. I have read that they are such loyal cats to their owners. IMO, they have more of the ALC features, especially in the fact. Gizmo & Scooter are both 4th generation cats, which I guess is why they are so wild, lol.
We had to sign some papers to close our re-finance on Friday night, and the one guy that was training, used to breed the bengals. He had 2 F2's and he said the one was mean & would bite hard, and couldn't potty train her.
I paid $500 for Tigger, $350 for Gizmo, and $250 for Scooter, and they all have their papers. I've noticed that it depends on the breeder's program, like Nicole said.

Nicole, how much would you sell a girl from Ladybug's litter for?:flash:

Tigger
I would sell a pet quality female for $375-$600. Most of the pet quality girls my mentor sells are around the $350 mark. For you Tigger I might work a special deal because I know she would be in good hands.:D
