Hi! I have always been a dog lover until this past summer when the cutest little feline showed up at my doorstep crying for food. I just could not resist taking her in. The vet checked her and found worms and ear mites on this tiny little 8 week old button. We immediately took care of those problems and she has been with us ever since. She is now 9 months and is the greatest little kitty ever. She has completely changed my views on cats.

Recently I have begun to think she may want a brother cat, but I am very hesitant. For starters, I live in a small one-bedroom apartment and things may get cramped with two litter boxes and two feeding areas. But besides that, if they don't get along, I will be heart-broken, and my little queen will most likely not be a happy camper.

She doesn't seem to need a buddy. When I spend the day at home, all she does is sleep, so I figure that's what she's doing when I'm at work. Every morning I wake up and we play for at least 15 minutes. And every evening when I get home from work we play for about 20-30 minutes. She sleeps most of the night in the bed with me (gets antsy around 5am, but that's ok b/c I'm usually up at 6am). She does not seem angry when I get home from work so I can only assume she's fine without a buddy.

Anyway, hello to everyone. I'm excited to be a part of this site. Talk to you soon!

I am actually planning on going to this weekend's pet adoption event at PetSmart. The Cat Network sponsors it and I will be looking for a good buddy for my Merlynn. Hopefully I'll find one. Thanks for the advice. Haha.

About the pictures...I'm very new to all of this and I do not know how to post the pictures of my baby girl. At the bottom on my screen it says I am not able to post attachments. ???

You can go to photobucket.com and open a free account. You can upload pics there, then come back here and paste them here. Let me go look for the instructions to do that.

Thank you for the comments on my little fuzzy.

I know I may get beat up for this...but remember...I'm new at this stuff.

I am going to see if I can find Merlynn a little buddy to hang out with during the day.

My question is: Even if they do not get along at all, is it better to have a cat there with her or let her live alone as the queen of the house?

Thanks for your advice! :wavey:

Awwwww shes precious. If you follow the introduction techniques, keeping them separated exchanging smells, they should get along just fine. She may also accept a kitten easier, too. Do a search of here about introductions and you should find some good advice.

Hi there :wavey: we're so happy to welcome you and Merlynn to TCS. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay with us - we're one great big family and you'll find loads of friends here. If I can help at all while you're finding your way around TCS just click on my username and send me a Personal Message - I'll do what I can to answer your questions:)

I'm so glad that you managed to figure out how to post photos - Merlynn certainly is a beauty:love: . With getting another cat, it's a hard choice, some cats take another, some don't. Our two indoor babies are inseparable, whereas one of indoor/outdoor girls really doesn't take newcomers easily at all.

Thanks for the warm kitty-luvin welcome! :heart3:

I am actually going to visit a 6 month old male kitten today. His foster mom should be sending me a picture soon, so I am very excited. His name is Piccolino and he was recued by the Cat Network. I hope he likes me so I can get started with intros and so Merlynn can have a buddy to romp around with :woohoo: all day while I'm at work.

If he doesn't work out, I have contacted another foster parent at the Cat Network and am waiting for her to give me a time to visit her kitties.

Wish me luck. I'm positive Merlynn will love the newcomer...after he realizes who's boss. :lol3: :lol3:

Welcome Merlynn and Mom

to TheCatSite! THANK YOU for rescuing Merlynn, getting her the necessary medical care, and being such a loving companion to her -- you're doing great with her and yes, it's true -- once you've been around a cat, you KNOW who's best! ;)

As you'll see, we definitely think multi-cat families are wonderful. All 9 of us were rescued by our devoted purrson, and while there can be occasional spats, we basically love each other and get along great! Our purrson has lived in 332 sq. ft. with 3 cats, and she'd be the first to say, "Don't let a small apartment stop you from loving more than one cat!" If you introduce them gradually to one another, they will undoubtedly bond, and then while you are away during the day, they will be company for one another. Feeding two hardly takes any more room or expense than feeding one, and adding one more litterbox is negligible, too. With millions of healthy, loving cats losing their lives each year domestically just because there are not enough loving, responsible homes, we really encourage everyone who loves cats to adopt as many as they can responsibly care for! It's a great thing to do on all levels.

Enjoy the site, and look forward to seeing you here -- maybe you'd share a photo or two?

Awww...she's so cute! In my opinion, cats that are younger definitely benefit from the company of another feline. I would suggest getting a neutered male, BTW.

I would definitely get her a little brother. I asked the same question here when I had my 6 month old female and from the feedback I went for it. It was the best decision ever. The introductions are important with letting them smell each other over time and I also kept the first meetings short over a period of a few days. My female hissed at the little boy a couple of times to show who's boss, but now they are best of buds and where there is one the other is close by. Ive always have had dogs so these are my first cats and I cant say when ive had more fun!!!!

Okay. So we have a new buddy at home. His name is Piccolino. He is the cutest little thing in the world. Well, not cuter than my Merlynn, of course. But, no, he really is sweet. Loud purrer and what a kneader!!! He makes biscuits all day long  . He came over on Saturday, which was great because I was off Saturday, Sunday and Monday. So I really had a lot of time to devote to them.

Merlynn is not thrilled AT ALL! :onfire: She didn't try to attack him, yet. So that is a great sign. She just hisses to let him know who's boss. And he could care less. He's just looking for another toy. Which, by the way, are all over. I feel like I have little children who take their toys and throw them all over the place. :lol3: He has been living in my bedroom during the day, while Merlynn stays in the living room. I was switching them the first few nights b/c Merlynn sleeps with me on my bed. After the third night, she didn't like that too much, so I decided to make my bed on the couch and camp out with her there. This put her much more at ease. And my boyfriend (mr. dog man himself who told me that he didn't want ANOTHER cat) slept in the room with the little guy. He absolutely adores him! ha!

Yesterday, I had no choice but to have them together all day because I was home and I had a new closet installed. They were in and out of the bedroom (where I am keeping him) and he just freaks in the bathroom. No tussles. Not even too many hisses. At one point in the day, they were even sleeping near eachother, though I doubt either one noticed. Pico was behind the bed on the window napper and Merlynn was on the bed waiting for me to finish folding clothes.

So we'll see how this weekend goes. I'm very excited for them to be loving buds. I know it takes patience, so I can wait.

Here are a few photos of the little guy. As the days go by, I can get some more!!!!

Yeah, I think it's more nerve wracking for me than for them as well. :lol3:

I have seen GREAT progress. They started playing together yesterday. A little hide-and-seek, a little tag. Closer to bedtime Merlynn got agitated so I let her sleep with me and left Pico in the living room. At least until she is totally fine with him...I don't need her hissing all night. ha!

I decided to leave them together today. When I left they were playing. I took some great shots of them today. I'll have to get those up soon.

Thanks for your support!!! I think she'll be thrilled with that little cutie. And I'm sure she'll forget they were ever nothing more than best buds.
