Hi everybody! :wavey:
I moved to Baton Rouge, LA in 9/05 with my boyfriend Chris and my cat, Onyx.
Onyx was born during Memorial Day weekend in 1997. I was visiting my parents for the weekend, and it was perfect timing! He was the littlest of the bunch, and I just couldn't resist him! :love: My brother's cat, Kitty and her daughter, Colena (who belonged to my sister) gave birth at the same time in the same basket!! No one can be sure whose kittens were whose, but Kitty was a Manx with no tail, and Colena also didn't have a tail. We think the ones with tails (including Onyx) were Colena's and the ones without them were Kitty's.
Onyx used to hide behind the stove and refrigerator. Even when he was a few months old, he was still so little that he could fit! He was really skittish for the first five years of his life, but he gradually built up his courage, and now he's the man of the house.
Katrina adopted us on Dec. 1, 2005. Katrina was outside another neighbor's apartment just meowing her little head off, and we heard her, so we went to check it out. The neighbor asked if she was ours and we informed her that she wasn't. We checked her out, and she was terribly skinny, had a mild case of fleas and a really bad case of ear mites...poor thing! The vet said she looked like she may have been on her own for as much as three weeks. From her age, we figured she was born right around time Hurricane Katrina, so now you see where she got her name. She's a very vocal cat, and although Onyx had some problems with her in the beginning, they are best pals now. :clap:
Here are some pictures of them. Onyx is the black one and Katrina is the white/gold/black one...we think she may be a Turkish Van mix.
